I think that's false. The Dell moderator misinterpretted a question asking whether color banding would be fixed in all modes, not noticing the 'all modes' part. He corrected himself in a later post. I don't think he said anything about fixing the more minor banding people have been seeing...
I somehow doubt anyone buying the monitor used will care whether it's 'A01' or 'A02'. It's essentially the same monitor, both without the color banding bug. I'd just keep the A01 if doesn't have any dead pixels, instead of having a constant back and forth with Dell.
I ordered the 2407 from CostCo in Canada online. I haven't yet received it, but from talking with Dell it sounds like it will be shipped directly from Dell in Austin.
Unfortunately it doesn't seem like Dell is necessarily sending only A02, so it may be luck of the draw. You are probably...
Nah, they do look better, however with the PS2 you have the issue that most games don't support progressive scan, so then you the monitor has to deinterlace the image.
It's pretty sad that the older Dreamcast system has much better progressive scan support via VGA. Most games work, and they...
It has HDCP. Definately works at 720p. Doesn't work at 1080i, since 1080i doesn't work at all over DVI. I haven't heard about anyone testing to see if it works at 1080p.
I don't have the monitor yet so I can't say for sure, but my understanding is that the color banding bug was only prevelant when running the monitor at it's native resolution through DVI. If you are running HL2 at a lower resolution, then you probably shouldn't see it either way.
Actually, it's the 2405 that has the same panel as the Samsung 244t (both are LTM240M1). The 2407 uses an updated version of the panel (LTM240M2), which has been measured to have less 'input' lag (really should be called 'output' lag) than the 2405 and 244t.
See here...
Hmmm, well, I hope he brings up the Samsung specs for that panel with them.
I think the 244T is the LTM240M1 panel (same as 2405), and from the specs it looks like it's a pretty minor change between panels. Main thing appears to be less ghosting. Now, you can make a monitor faster by...
The 'trustedreview' review doesn't appear to be all that accurate, and I would doubt they have anything definitive to say that it is a 6-bit display. I provided a link earlier providing fairly detailed specs on the Samsung panel used in the monitor, and in there it is described as 'true 8-bit'...
With CostCo in Canada, I contacted two people on the phone and someone by email, all of whom could not answer whether they have A00 A01 or A02. I decided to just order anyway, and if turns out to not be what I want I'll give it back, as CostCo is very liberal return policy.
The 2407FPW uses the Samsung LTM240M2 panel. According to the data sheet found here:
ftp://www.distec.de/Displays/Samsung/LTM240M2-L02_SA-01-092_Rev0_17.02.2005.pdf
On page 2:
'Driver Type (Data Bits): True 8bit
Same goes for LTM240M1, which is the panel used on the 2405FPW.
The one online has shipping included, so either way it will be that price I believe. I'm in Canada, and Costco here *only* has it online. Just ordered it today.
I think if you order directly from Dell, you might be able to get a cheaper price if you have coupons and the like, or you might...
There has been some question as to whether the monitor supports 1080p. According to the help for the "ATI Catalyst Control Center" (CCC), there is a way to force 1080p to be output. I don't know if this works on all ATI cards, but it might be worth a try for those who are curious. I'd try it...
