The GW2255 is an awesome little monitor, I can't help but wonder why it gets so little attention. Great blacks for an LCD due to it being a va panel, no IPS glow, near non-existent input lag (confirmed by displaylag.com), small size, no worthless speakers bulking it up, and so on. I've had a...
I think I'd try for the swap. I remember having a Sony W900with this problem that was evident as soon as I turned it on. Adjusting the "landing" can fix this in some monitors, if that is an option you see in your OSD menu.
Of course, sometime degaussing the screen can fix color...
Your eyes will get used to the ghosting if you stick with the LCD for awhile. I play CoD on an LCD all the time, and it's just fine. Also, the increased screen width going from 4:3 to 16: 9 is really a big upgrade with first person shooters, like BF3. Better field of view is a big advantage...
The first response to your post pretty much sums it up. If you make the switch to LCD, you will have to accept the fact that there will be viewing angle variations, lower contrast ratio, and some degree of ghosting. No way around it. I was a die hard CRT user for years but just got tired of...
As you said, it's only 30 pixels more vertically than 1080p. Level of detail will be negligible between the two. I use both, and I like the 22" 16:10 for gaming and web browsing and the 16:9 for movies/TV shows.
Both of the big CRT's I have will do 2048x1536 at 60hz. I could never do 60 hz for long on a CRT, but it looks very nice if you aren't sensitve to the flicker.
Aperture grill (trinitron) tubes are better for color accuracy and brightness, but shadow mask tubes are more common on the free...
The Asus VH238H is a good value in that price range. Terrible speakers, however, just like all of those cheaper monitors. I bought my dad that Insignia you mentioned. It's fine, and has better speakers, but I wouldn't want it as a gaming/pc monitor.
I signed up for freecycle a few years back. I was surprised how many people had CRTs to unload, I picked up few that way. Great fun if you are a hoarder like me. Mostly they were pretty used up, but I still have a little Gateway trinitron from that time that works well.
It is too bad that the 120hz ones are TN panels, and that's a trade off that's very difficult to endure for CRT users. I also have a 1440p cinema display that I use for work, and occasionally for games. MUCH nicer PQ than the 120hz but I find the smearing effect of the IPS disorienting for...
I definitely understand wanting to have a CRT for black levels, ghosting, response, etc. I've just recently moved away from them myself, and i still have 4 sitting around. I replaced them with 120hz LCD's because I just got tired of the 4:3 screen and having to letterbox for 16:9 or 16:10...
I'm gonna second that one. I struggled to fix my old W900 CRT. I could never find the parts, and it's dangerous to tinker inside the case. Never could get it running, so I eventually picked up a 21" CRT in working condition on eBay. All good now.
I don't think I could step backwards to the Xbox for this one. I'm running an ATI mobility 5730 in a boot camp partition on iMac. That is a pretty low end card, but I can still run the game at 720p with 45-60 fps.
This is with FXAA enabled and no AA, but it looks great. I envy those of you that...
That Acer h233h you have is one of the lowest lag monitors out there-around 6-7 ms. It is a favorite among competive gamers, along with the Asus V236H. I have one, and it's great for twitchy shooters. Not very good blacks or viewing angles, but it's a TN panel so that's just the way it is.
If...
What kind of projector? what projector exactly? I was thinking the same thing
reflected light=easier for the eyes
have you tried some IPS screens or those LCD with 120 hz?
The projector is a Mitsubishi hd1000u-I really do like it. It's only 720p though.
I do have an Apple Cinema...
