Not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not (didn't read through all 15 pages of this thread) but the i5 655k is mislabeled as an i7 655k in at least some of the graphs.
While I changed my mind about building a new system, there was nothing I found that discouraged me from getting the 870 extreme3 for an AMD build. Some say that the 4+1 power phase design is dangerous for high TDP processors (like the Phenom II x4 and especially the x6 Thubans), especially with...
For that price I'd have to go for the Radeon HD 6850. For $300 the 6950 gives better performance, but if that's definitely out of your budget a 6850 would suit you well (assuming your power supply is half-decent and there's room in your case for one). Plus, if you have a crossfire capable...
Not sure about those, but here's a link showing why 2gb of framebuffer is very important at high resolutions:

Although this is with a different, more underpowered card, you can see just how much VRAM...
Thanks guys, that's pretty helpful. I guess I could get the two 6950s now and two more monitors later, I was just really hoping to experience Eyefinity for myself haha.
I also updated the eyefinity wishlist with an 850tx since I can afford it, and I would like the peace of mind for sure.
Any...
I would suggest the 6950s because of the 2gb of VRAM on them. At high resolutions, like 3 monitor eyefinity, the 2gb of VRAM is a MUST. Plus, they obviously perform better than the two 6870s, at only ~$50 more per card.
Just check that your power supply can handle them, that you have an active...
Thanks, what cards are you using and what framerates at what resolution in what games are you getting? I personally have NO idea what kind of performance to expect from a 6950 at 3x1920x1080, which is why I'm asking.
Hi,
I'm still in the process of organizing my new build, and with the release of the 69xx series I'm having trouble deciding between two options:
1) Crossfiring 6950s with my 1920x1080 23" monitor, or
2) Buying one 6950 + 2 more 1920x1080 23" monitors for eyefinity
Both would come out to $600...
Alright, I may do that since I have 0 experience with overclocking anyway, I was just hoping to keep it as an option.
Just wondering, why is the nVidia 750a chipset for AM3 motherboards considered so bad? It would save me some money, still manage to run at x8 x8 SLi, and seems to have gotten...
Thanks for that, and as I said previously I'm not dead-set on buying a 3 monitor setup, so if my build is that bad then I might pass on it.
Let's say I decide not to overclock anything, and am willing to turn the fans up a little to keep temperatures down. Would I be able to pass with my...
Thanks for the link to that RAM, just curious though, would the heatsinks on the RAM I have now help with overclocking or keeping temps down? If I end up upgrading the x4 955 to a x6 1055t (not now, but by the time 6 cores are being taken advantage of in games), I'll rely on overclocking the...
Well, no offense, but in the link you just sent me, the minimum framerate of the x4 x4 build is 5-10 fps lower than in a x16 x16 setup, which could make or break smooth gameplay in a demanding game like Crysis. Although I guess I forgot just how close x4 x4 is to x16 x16, my bad, and you're...

Some alienware keyboard bundled with an alienware desktop I'm currently trying to get rid of so I can build my own system.
Huh, strange.
Well, here's what I'm seeing:

Besides the things you've stated previously (IIRC, you're not suggesting the Rosewill PSU, Lexa S case, or Biostar MB), is there anything else you'd like to change? Despite me not agreeing with some of your...
I'm not sure which one you're talking about..
