Yes, I have read about the doubling the failure rate if I go raid 0. Hell, for $300, I could go to Raid 10 for the same price, but then I would have 4 drives in my system before I get to the nice big 1TB data drive.
I just would like to hear if anyone has tried both. A Stripped array vs VR...
Well, for a boot drive, I would expect room for all of my apps which is less than 30 GB. However, with games, I would say at max 80GB of boot drive space.
Money, well, I can afford 1 Velociraptor at $299, for this.
All,
I am putting together a new rig and I am considering a faster boot drive configuration. While I am a part-time gamer, I am a person who needs to have a bunch of apps open at the same time, including photoshop, etc.
I am looking to speed all that up.
At first I was considering 1...
Interesting. I could get a 300GB SAS drive and the controller for less $ than a single VR.
Would anyone know how a new Velocirapor drive would compare to a 10k SAS drive performance wise? I am kind of tired waiting for a VD.

I too have been waiting for the WD3000 to become available. I was wondering there are 300GB 10k RPM SAS drives. Would they work in a SATA II system? Aren't they the same interface?

Hello,
I am an NV fan from way back. Since I started building systems in the 80's - yep, I am that old - ATI has always had issues with their drivers. Seemed like the first three versions were "beta" quality and only once the card was obsolete did they get the drivers to work. So I have an...
1. If you took at look at DE, you would understand that it's flawed at its very core. Be VERY careful if you use it. I don't trust it. I have seen WAY too many people lose entire directory structures of files. I use a RAID 5 array and no DE. Unless they use a simultaneous write scheme at...
Still can't believe that MS created the thing and have it NOT support the OS they have been pushing on us for over a year. Makes absolutely no sense. How can MS expect anyone to support Vista x64 if they don't even do it?
While the whole review is quite long, This page on the AnandTech Review provided the best info about how to get the most out of the RAM timings.

What I found interesting is that playing with the MCM (tRD) had a much more dramatic effect...

All,
I understand I need XP64 to run 8GB. I just wonder if it works as well with everything like XP. If XP 64 is not quite as good, then I will go with less RAM.
I also understand that others like Vista. As I said, I know about some severe issues with some of the new kernel level API's...
All,
I am doing a new build with quality equipment, which is why I am here. I can't afford to run Vista as it isn't compatible with MS own products like Windows Home Server. Also, since I work in the security industry, I know that the new Windows Filtering Platform (the new API that MS wants...
Ok. I was thinking of getting some 10k drives which I know are loud, even when suspending them, To quiet them down I was going to encase them in special quiet/cooling boxes.
However, I am still new at Water Cooling. I have used Scythe S-Flexes in cooling my AV cabinet and yes they are...
