[New Build Help] $1500 Gaming/Editing Box

Dang it. I waited too long and now the motherboard listed above is no longer available. Can anyone point me to a comparable board? I can see several similar models listed there but I'm not sure if the board we had selected was the best of the bunch. Any recommendations? EDIT: Well, I should say...

[New Build Help] $1500 Gaming/Editing Box

Thanks for the advice regarding performance with Adobe Creative Cloud. So GeForce GPU performs better with Adobe stuff than the Vega 64 does? How do the two cards compare on gaming performance? Thanks!

[New Build Help] $1500 Gaming/Editing Box

One thing I just noticed this build is missing is an optical drive. I'd like to have a bluray writer for playing some old discs and potentially writing bluray video discs. Can someone recommend a good drive?

[New Build Help] $1500 Gaming/Editing Box

Thanks! Yeah, firewire is gone, but my old camcorder uses it to stream video when it's transferring to a computer, so I need something to connect. However, since adapters exist, I'll just get one of those. When I added the CPU to my Amazon cart it suggested buying thermal paste - do I need to...

[New Build Help] $1500 Gaming/Editing Box

Thanks for the build! I'm having trouble telling from the motherboard specs though - does it have a firewire port? I guess there are Firewire to USB 3 adapters out there so that might actually be a better option. But it'd be good to know if I should pick one of those up. It looks like the...

[New Build Help] $1500 Gaming/Editing Box

Hello again, [H]ardForum! It's been nearly seven years since my last personal PC build, and since then you've helped me build a machine for my parents and make a few upgrades. Thanks! You haven't steered me wrong yet, so I'd like to ask for your recommendations on a new machine. I'll be moving...

Can I just upgrade my GPU or is my system too old?

Thanks! 970 GTX sounds like an excellent choice between performance boost and price. The machine itself is three years old, so I guess I'll stick with my power supply for now. Is there a particular vendor/version of the 970 GTX that people are recommending as the best place/price right now? The...

Can I just upgrade my GPU or is my system too old?

I built my current machine with advice from here and it worked out great. I think my video card may be getting a little old, though, and was wondering if I could/should upgrade it. Here is my machine's current build: Intel Core i7-3770 CPU + MSI Z77A-G43 Intel Z77 ATX Motherboard Combo...

Build Help: Desktop PC to match my parents' laptop

Thanks! Too bad Newegg was apparently dickish. I've got Amazon prime anyway, so... too bad for Newegg! My parents are very excited about the idea and I've just placed my order. Thanks again!

Build Help: Desktop PC to match my parents' laptop

Ah, one question: there appears to be no graphics card here. Does the processor or the motherboard have an integrated graphics card? If so, that will almost definitely be fine - my parents aren't hardcore gamers. However, they do like watching videos on Youtube and playing online flash games...

Build Help: Desktop PC to match my parents' laptop

My parents won't really be needing expansion space and actually expressed interest in a smaller case. So I'm interested in a better motherboard for the mATX. What's it got that the suggested board hasn't? Thanks!

Build Help: Desktop PC to match my parents' laptop

Thanks for the build - this sounds like just about what we need. My parents actually asked about a smaller case, so the mini-ITX isn't really daunting at all, especially because the odds of them needing extra space in the case are very low. I also prefer ordering from Amazon than Micro...

Build Help: Desktop PC to match my parents' laptop

Well, I want a desktop PC that meets or exceeds the specs of the laptop I referenced above, which included a link to the laptop's technical specs. So I want at least 640 GB of hard drive space. And an SSD is unnecessary.

Build Help: Desktop PC to match my parents' laptop

It's an LG iHAS224-0 DVD Burner with Lightscribe, which I ordered by accident instead of a Bluray drive for my latest machine. So it's SATA. Should fit right in with any build you can recommend.
