Sorry, I've never had that happen to me - I always had to buy one from the store. I was in there two months ago getting a SIM for a friend coming from overseas, very last minute, and it was $10.

VT-d is a special feature used by hypervisors like ESXi or Xen. If you need it, you're usually well aware of that. VirtualBox, Virtual PC and VMware Workstation all take advantage of Vt-x - they couldn't use VT-d even if it was available.

I'd be tempted to just add a super cheap b/g router with a crossover cable into the setup. I did something similar recently to relieve my problem of reconfiguring everything.
I was under the same assumption while checking out that motherboard for puchase, until I saw their CPU support list, which shows pretty much every 1155 CPU Intel makes:

Interesting point of view. Of course, all my Linux and Solaris installs (with extremely large amounts of RAM) all have virtual memory provisioned. I guess they just copy Windows?
