Need a new HBA - suggestions / recommendations?

I agree about the LSI 9207. It is an up to date card, super speed, reliable and easy to install. I highly recommend it.

    Seagate Archive drives

I have 2 of these and am very happy with them. I have had only 3 small files that were slow writers out of hundreds of vid files written on them. In many cases these are files have been rewritten over deleted vid files with absolutely no reduction in write speeds. Playback on BR vids work...

Can I fill a storage drive to capacity?

I will repeat, there is no speed reduction at all (none) if you are using Win 7 or 8 on a storage only drive or even a partitioned storage area. Many years ago it was recommended for the OS portion of a drive to have a 50% free space. Why? Mainly because Windows kept all of the updates added to...

Can I fill a storage drive to capacity?

He is asking about a storage drive not an OS drive. I will presume you are using Win7 or 8 and there is no defragmenting that needs to be done. You will have no problems with filling the drive and there will be no speed reduction or any other problems.

    Suggestions for new HD

B&H is one of the most reliable and honest companies out there. I have been purchasing all of my HD's from them for the last 2 years. Consumers Reports Mag listed them last year as one of the 5 top rated online stores for electronics. They are owned by a pair of devout Hasidic Jews and close...

Is Google Building A Floating Data Center?

The switch center for a new Google Internet city? Mass production of a standardized center would reduce infrastructure costs greatly and could be used on inland waterways with a permanent mooring.

    Western Digital Red 4TB HDD

I have to agree with Fritingo. I also have worked with RE drives as Main and Secondary drives for several years and not a one has ever had a problem in a normal desktop or workstation environment. I install the RE drives in new computers and say good-by to HD problems.

Defrag software that can Move Videos to end of HDD?

I have been using UltimateDefrag for a couple of years now for a few disks that I needed to do the same thing as you. Archive video that is not going to be altered or deleted and it leaves the rest on the outer rim for fast access. You will be happy with it over the slower free programs.

A Video Converter that uses all Cores/GPUs?

Handbrake is the way to go. GPU encoding for video is inferior in video quality but faster in rendering compaired to CPU encoding from personal experience and the pros say the same thing. http://handbrake.fr/

Need suggestions on a good email client

I highly recommend Fastmail.fm for an E-Mail client. I have been with them for several years and it has only been down one day in that time and I have never lost any info. They were bought out earlier this year by Opera so they can use it for their in house E-Mail client but have kept the...

what to do with many old HD's? multiHD?

I wipe them, take the screws out of the top, put a rubber band around the drive to keep the top on and then give them to local schools for their science class. The teachers are appreciative, the kids love handling them and get to see what and how their computer that they use every day works.

    Display technology: Q & A

You have to understand that each step of the way involved new technology and it took the Studios and Manufacturers to come up with a standard that they both would agree upon. The 480 standard was almost a give because it allowed current TV sets (tube sets) to use the standard without any...
