    ZFSguru NAS fileserver project

Thanks pdonovan. I copied the files to same server and pointed the variables to local path. Internet connection no longer required :D It is sad, but this is life. I hope mesa is in good shape out there.

    ZFSguru NAS fileserver project

There was an error when doing a root-on-zfs, on the last step: ERROR: Could not locate system version HASH748d96ba00f129e05f78610cbe46bec4 Using the the live-cd, managed to see virtualbox booting at the least. I'm very excited about this feature.

Connect with ssh, type: ee /etc/rc.conf search for and update: "hostname=..." line

The GUI is displaying sector size reported by HDD itself. I second that a pool's sector size value to be displayed at the pool page. I had one of those "ahaaah" moments when I read mesa's explanation on 2nd page. I was confused for why hdds would lose the sector override until then. It should...

Testing ZFS RAID-Z performance with 4K sector drives

I figured, enough with benchmarking and it's about time to get an everyday feel of the server. Created a raidz1 pool (5 x 2TB western digital) with 4k override. So far server is storing around 2.7TB of data. If I got to say, I'm pleased with the performance: samba, iscsi, non-destrucitve...

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

quick update: yup that did the trick. The server seems to be happy with its new swap file. So far I ran a small benchmark. Then created a version 28 pool and copied around 25 GB to it without a problem. Will do a full benchmark later. thanks for your continuous support!

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

The system has 8GB of memory detected by system. Other specs at signature. For the record, all benchmarks are performed using root-on-zfs installation. I've tried downgrading to 0.1.7-preview2 with latest update. Again, benchmark was halted due to swap space pid 1435 (php), uid 0, was...

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

I've ran into several issues. 1. Virtual Machine: 0.1.7-preview2 worked find inside VMWare workstation. It boots, creates a zfs-on-root on a USB stick where I use to install ZFSGuru to server machine (which doesn't have a DVD drive). But 0.1.7-preview3 didn't boot until memory was increased...

Testing ZFS RAID-Z performance with 4K sector drives

yo! I see your point about NCQ's system-wide effect. Right now I've one ssd for boot. But I could hardly tell if there's any gain of using one. May replace it with a laptop's hdd. A USB flash with zfs-on-root sounds like an optimal solution, but couldn't get it to work. Will try to provide logs...

    FreeBSD ZFS NAS Web-GUI

Great work here mesa! It'll help to consolidate all tuning tips on one place. So far I've done benchmarks without tuning, auto tuning, limited NCQ and used gnop. Will try to expand the memory beyond physical available (12/6/5) and see. Any other suggestions?

Testing ZFS RAID-Z performance with 4K sector drives

I've been following the 4k's state for a while. Finally got down to build a server (Supermicro X8SIA + SASUC8I). It contains 5 WD20EARS 00MVWB0 hdd. Limiting NCQ as mesa had mentioned returned the best results: That's very good if I could say myself. Samba's transfer rate to server was...
