Just as a followup to my problem above. I tried another power supply and the problem persisted. I also tried an e4300. So that is three processors that are exhibiting the same problem.
Possible board problem ? Could it be RMA'd, and under what auspice ?
I have a perplexing problem and have worked on it for a couple weeks now and need assistance.
I had been running on a E6600 at 410x8 for the longest time (months). Did a normal reboot one day and the system did the double start (as if something were wrong) and reset the overclock. No biggie...
I have seen this happen before on mine...usually after power has been disconnected for awhile (power plug disconnected).
Usually it will overclock back up when it resets, however some times I have seen it stick when I have tested some ram. Reseat the ram....
OK, spent some time tweaking the E6600 and was able to get it to 415mhz orthos stable overnight (see sig).
I have enough cooling capacity and the ram hasn't reached its limit yet (930mhz), so I am reaching now...
I did reduce the ram voltage down to +.2 (2.0v) which is below spec for this...
BTW, the new beta of Speedfan (4.33b18) resolves some problems on the 965-DS3 chipsets. Displays the Fan RPM's correctly now, but still has problems with the 12V readings. New support for displaying your GPU temp it seems.
Installed that E6600 and trying to get some decent clocks out of it...
There are only two of them above my CPU....
I knew about the MOSFETS and those are barely even warm to the touch....So I wasn't too concerned about them. The Nortbridge, and southbridge for that matter) are already watercooled so we are just fine there.
The OC is on a E4300 @ 3.3ghz. Have...
Thanks for the reply. I have the system in an Antec 900, so there is definately quite a bit of air movement....but my thought was that those parts were warmer than I wanted them to be. Anyone see a problem with attaching a heatsink to those two little buggers to help convect the heat a little...
Has anyone noticed those two chips/blocks/whatever with the copper coils in the above the CPU tray getting quite warm/hot on the P965-DS3? I watercool and happened to notice this the other day when working in the case when the sytem was on. Has anyone tried to cool them at all or noticed this ?
