I'm afraid that's not possible. I ran into the same problem and dug through the CLI doc, but didn't find any way to name ports. IIRC my workaround was labeling the drive caddies with the drives serial numbers, since that's an info MSM shows.
Yes, those expander cards are 6Gbps, but only for SAS drives. SATA drives are limited to 3Gbps.
You can use dual linking with these cards, but unless your disk arrays can provide more than 2,4GByte/s you don't need it.
Edit: this is my source for those cards...
You'd need an expander like this one: https://hardforum.com/threads/hp-sas-expander-owners-thread.1484614/
Plus at least one SFF-8087 to SFF-8087 cable to connect the expander to your controller.
And more SFF-8087 to SATA cables.
Where are you located? I've got a very cheap source for those HP...
Well, there is one way: connect enough drives to the expander to saturate more than one uplink (2,4 GB/s), RAID0 them and benchmark. ;-)
In other words: if your drive setup can't provide more than 2,4 GB/s, it doesn't really matter if both links are used - that's assuming that you aren't going...
MSM doesn't see the expander as a separate device.
HPSSA does see it, but it doesn't tell you if dual link is active, either. Source: my expander is connected to a HP P812 with two cables. The only difference I "see" when I pull one of the links is that the controller initializes significantly...
I see two options:
1. Get rid of the DVD an use the three 5,25" bays with something like a Raidsonic IB-565SSK
Those drive cages do need molex power, there are SATA-to-Molex adapters available.
You'd need additional SATA ports, for which I'd go the SAS-HBA route: SAS2 HBAs with 2TB+ support are...
Just signed up to add the info that there is no need for a HP controller to update the firmware of this expander. Virtually any compatible LSI based HBA it IT mode and a Linux live cd will do:
1. Boot from x86 Linux Live CD, ie. Ubuntu
2. Open a console with Ctrl+Alt+T
3. sudo apt install...
