    I finally found the link! It just took alot of staring at numbers to figure out it, which is pretty obvious now. The numbers after the "VB" from the output of camcontrol identify correspond to the ddb.uuid.image number in the vmdk mapping file.

    The consistent fall of hard disk prices may have stimulated demand for these cards. That's just a guess though.
