HTPC HDDs, Small OS drive + Storage or All in one?

40gb Seagate Barracuda ATA IV. A very quiet drive which will probably die on me sometime soon. No matter as I have imaged my system and can restore it from DVD. I also have 4 more of those 40gb Seagates at work just waiting... I run just the system (MCE) and nothing more. All media is stored...

Help me build a high-end silent gaming pc/HTPC

What are you going to watch? Your current athlon is good enough for use as an HTPC unless you are watching some really powerful stuff like 1080i transport streams encoded in h.264. If your TV can support 2 dvi inputs then I would suggest that you split the 2. 1 htpc and 1 gaming pc...

    SN27P2 Build ... Please comment

Jalidi would you mind writing a bit more about your shuttle? I have been thinking about buying one for a while now but it's hard to decide. The thing I want to know about most is the noise. Is it noisy or quiet? How many fans are you running? Would I buy be able to put a passively cooled 7900 or...

    Looking For A Picture

Doesn't illustrator have some kind of function for that? You could ask someone to take a photo of your hand against a green or background and then convert it to vector graphics after importing the image to illustrator?

How about if you have XP with no SP or with only SP1? Then it will just automatically connect you to the first available wireless network. Byaaaah! It wasn't me it was Microsoft. :P Change computer name to Asshat. Change MAC address. Let's see them find me now. I use open wifis for my...

    audio filters

Hi, You could probably use a guide on how to use ac3filter. There is probably one on doom9 or TGB. But let's look at your problem. What player are you using for playback? What soundcard? What OS? What audio out connection? If we go generic and assume Windows XP, WMP, some soundcard...

Anyone use a Mac Mini as a HTPC?

If you get the 1.86 you will be better off. Then get remote buddy so the remote will actually be useful. Front Row will have trouble playing back some files since not all codecs are availabe for quicktime. Front Row also likes to preview and generate thumbnails which takes alot of time. Mac OS X...

Anyone use the new Vista (MCE) stuff?

I tried it and came to the conclusion that I NEED MORE POWER CAPTAIN! Seriously... Single core Athlon 3800+ with 1 GB ram and built in 6150 just felt sluggish. The crazy HD activity and cpu spikes when navigating the GUI didn't make things better. 2 GB made things a bit better... but I...

My dad wants an HTPC...but with a catch. Need help

They made a little write up in TGB on how play WMP video playlists in MCE and how to make WMP generate a new playlist on boot. Still no shuffle though. So you get to watch them in alphabetical order... yay. Tried it a long time ago. Don't use it anymore. Which is why my D-Link 320 still has...

My dad wants an HTPC...but with a catch. Need help

Because you probably don't have a proper Mpeg2 decoder. Get Nvidia Purevideo or to begin with download a Cyberlink PowerDVD trial from the Cyberlink website. Less people have trouble with PowerDVD than with Nvidia PureVideo. Some people will however say that PureVideo has a tad bit better...

My dad wants an HTPC...but with a catch. Need help

Yep you can do that too and it also adds a feature that MCE doesn't have on it's own. You can actually add titles that consists of several avi files (sound familiar?) and MCE will then play them 1 after the other when you play the movie through My Movies in MCE instead of My Videos. There...

Start My Movies from the start menu, "Manage Collection" and not from within MCE.

Any HDDVD software that doesnt require HDCP spec?

HDCP is only required on digital signals with the X-Box 360 HD-DVD addon. Use VGA and you are good to go. PowerDVD 6.5 is also a bit less pick about HDCP compliancy. Edit: Deusfaux beat me to it! :P
