NICE! What a great find and awesome price!
I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine. I love the 24U design as well with the wood top. I wish all my stuff would have fit in that size since I technically like it better, but I really wanted a shelf to put misc stuff on so I had to upsize...
Those Ucoustic racks look to have incredible sound reduction. 28dB vs 18dB from the Netshelter and it is incredible how much of a difference that 18dB makes, so I can only imagine how good the Ucoustics are.
I honestly did consider them (and a few others), but in the end I went with the...
I can certainly understand the frustration with obtaining anything large from the states when you don't actually live there. The cabinet is a fairly recent purchase, and honestly it only became possible once me and the family moved to California in the last few months. Before that, we were...
Not far off, but not quite that bad either.

Spent a full year saving up for it....and I would still buy it again if given the choice. It has ended up being one of the best decisions I ever made for my aural sanity. Granted...
Total RAW storage in rack: 112TB
Drawing of the ESXi SAN setup I created a while back which provides a design overview :
Additional Details if curious:

I have no advice on the actual software you mention, but I will touch on the virtualization of the SAN.
Virtualizing the SAN will add additional layers of complexity to your design. Additionally, virtualizing it will not directly improve its performance.
The real question is why would...
I personally wouldn't do it, utilizing drives that were not designed to be used in a hardware RAID is only asking for trouble. Who knows they may work for a while, but most likely at somepoint, you are going to experience timeouts which will cause the controller to fail the drive and degrade the...
Goodsync for Windows (http://www.goodsync.com/):
Its not free unfortunately (~$30), but it does have a 30-day full featured trial. I can personally attest that it does have automation, is extremely fast, and is highly customizable.
Reds are fairly slow 5400RPM hard drives just like the Greens. The major difference I am aware of is they have TLER support for use with a Hardware RAID controller. A Google search will find you indepth performance statistics for these drives.
Blacks are a desktop class 7200RPM hard drive...
I have no doubt that someone with the skills could pull it off for considerably cheaper than buying from the manufacturer.
For me personally, I don't have those skills (or tools) yet to even make the attempt. I put money away for the last year knowing I was going to buy a nice sound dampened...
Very nice. You could definitely build something something exactly like this pre-built APC rack if you have the skills and tools to do so. No idea how much it would cost you, but it is essentially a rack frame attached to painted plywood box (maybe an oversimplification but still...).
It...
SANSymphony is so expensive that I don't think you could even come close to license 100TB of HA storage for $50k, and I'm only talking about the software licenses and not the hardware itself. You should just contact them and get a quote though to atleast hear what they say.
It's been a while...
Sorry images are old and kind of crappy, but this shows some of the evolution of my in home datacenter.
The first ghetto rack....
The second not so ghetto rack. Sides and doors became a new requirement because of the damn cats
