BF4 AMD Mantle Video Card Performance Review Part 1 @ [H]

I don't think this is entirely accurate. I agree with the general idea, but I suspect that if you looked at the average BF player he'd be running a quad-core clocked at around 3ghz. The overclocked monster [H] is using in testing is close to the quickest CPU-setup you can get for 'normal' usage...

from what it looks like, Is Mantle a game changer to you?

And alienate a ton of customers with the high requirements? I doubt it.

from what it looks like, Is Mantle a game changer to you?

Exactly. Mantle has shown that we can free significant CPU resources by slimming down our graphics APIs. But if we have to build our games around DirectX too, then we have to ignore those freed resources when designing our games.

from what it looks like, Is Mantle a game changer to you?

This. If Mantle and Nvidia's probably-to-be-announced version(or a combined effort from both) doesn't become the standard in the next few years, it'll be sad. It's frankly ridiculous to be wasting so much CPU power when it could have been avoided, as made clear by Mantle in CPU-bound scenarios.

OFFICIAL: BF4 Mantle Cat 14.1 Performance and Feedback Thread

Isn't GPU memory management in the hands of the developers now? If so, it's likely to be a DICE problem rather than a Mantle problem. Maybe they optimized for 2GB+ vram, or maybe it really is just a bug.

    Haswell-E reveal: 8 Cores, DDR4, X99

There are many things you can use increased processing power for. For first person shooter games, which are probably the ones you're thinking of when you say real world advantage, they can have more advanced AI, pathfinding and physics, as well as more NPCs. For strategy games they can pretty...

    Mantle is here

Few developers make graphics engines anymore though, the vast majority of games share just a few different ones. That's why I think an API like Mantle, and whatever Nvidia comes up with, is actually viable now, as opposed to in the earlier days when making a simple engine in-house was quite...

OFFICIAL: BF4 Mantle Cat 14.1 Performance and Feedback Thread

But if that's the case, why isn't Mantle running significantly faster in non-CPU bottlenecked scenarios too?

    Mantle is here

Maybe he thinks Intel/AMD/Nvidia should just stop developing new technology because what we have is fast enough?

    Mantle is here

Would that be useful though? Who carries around two 290x with an i3? And a 50+% increase with a high-end Intel CPU tells you all you need to know for CF setups really.

Mantle launches this month in BF4.

What's so difficult to understand? In CPU-bound scenarios(usually low-end CPU and high-end GPU, but could also be high-end CPU and multi-GPU), you'll see tremendous gains in performance. In GPU-bound scenarios, i.e. when you've both a high end CPU and GPU, or a high end CPU and low-end GPU...

What's the latest word on Mantle?

My experience is limited to hobby OpenGL programming, but aren't you simplifying quite a bit here? Many game objects are made up of several graphics models and thus require multiple draw calls unless otherwise worked around. You're also ignoring the massive amount of special effects being done...

    AMD BF4 Mantle Delay

That's a good point. And as can be seen, it's AMD who's making the announcement, not DICE. Could indicate they've had problems with some aspects of Mantle, or that they want to wait until BF4's less buggy. The latter sounds unlikely, since it'd be in AMD's interest to get it out as soon as...

Why isn't Shadowplay making a bigger splash?

Same, really couldn't care less about recording gameplay. It's a nice feature for some people no doubt, but for me it would have zero effect on my buying decision.
