    get them retail and not oem..and they should have the brackets... to spend more, stay with the i7 and stick two ssd's in... consider crossfiring (running two amd videocards) 8 cores are better then 4 anyday... I've got a i7 930 and a i7 960 here... more then 4 cores can get busy at a time...

    2600 vs 2500, While settle for a i5 when you can afford and i7? I started with a i5 on the build then went with a i7 once i saw it was within budget. Not that much more for the i7. Ram picks are almost the same, my pick was based on chipset approved, I've used the combo on a few builds...

    yeah, is this a full build or just cpu upgrade? Full upgrade go, 860 or 920 / Just a cpu, Go with a e8400 "lga-775 socket" should work with your current board. and overclock to 3.4 or 3.6 "very modest"

    680i wont post with ATI primary, nVidia secondary

    680i doesn't do crossfire. it only does sli... shame on nvidia. There was "long ago" a bios mod that got them to do crossfire from one of the board manufactures with the help of nvidia. It only worked with that brand 680i, It wasn't evga ...it might have been asus. Can that bios thingy work...

    Correct, you could lower the resolution. But you won't... lcd's look their best at the native resolution, anything less will have you switching back to the 1920x1200/1080 pretty darn quick casue image qaulity goes down the shitter. I think you'll be able to handle games with mid settings. 4 to 8...

    P4 2.8 Northwood overclock settings?

    I remember mine being like around 3.5ghz with a mild vcore bump... Northwoods had the 512kb cache which made it a good overclocker. the prescotts were 1mb cache and ran a lot warmer. You should be able to start around 150 (3150mhz) and work it up from there. Motherboards were everything back...
