Just to put the argument to rest... I got my hands on a GTX 560 ti. I installed it and a solid state drive (the SSD shouldn't make a FPS difference, especially since BF3 is still on my old drive). I now run at 1680x1050 on High and never drop below 30FPS. It's usually a pretty solid 50-60FPS...- QFT

Neither really. CPU hovers around 85% and the video card bounces around that area too. Still, my frames suck. It's normally at 1680x1050 but I've lowered it which helps a little bit (still in the 20s if there's action going on, though) I'm looking for a 6950/6970 right now. If that doesn't...- QFT

It's been awhile since I tried that, and that was with BFBC2. I've had some crossfire trouble with my Win7 install and was thinking going single card (with a newer card) might help. I'm not planning on keeping socket 775 forever, as I stated, I'm wondering if upgrading the video card right now...- QFT

Yeah, when I mentioned getting a 2500k on the cheap, I was referring to the used market as everyone upgrades to Ivy Bridge. Your post made me think of another option... if Ivy won't be a big gaming upgrade, maybe I should upgrade my GPU now, and grab a 2500k setup on the cheap when everyone buys Ivy? Might have enough money left for another vid card and then run Xfire.... that would probably gain me more FPS than an...- QFT

Poor BFBC2 performance with xfire'd 4850s
Results: Acquired Q6600 from friend, installed, got about a 30-50% framerate boost. Not perfect, but WAY better than before. Actually playable now. Next step may be to get a better case for airflow, a nice CPU cooler and overclock it. Thanks for the help guys, most of you were on the money.- QFT

You are absolutely correct. Fortunately BC2 doesn't use over 512MB of VRAM on just one monitor (if what I've been reading is correct). Good info. For now I think I'll just stick with the "free" C2Q I'm getting from a buddy, which will hopefully give me a decent boost to make things more playable at 1680x1050 (my native res). In a year I'll just upgrade the whole box when I can get Ivy Bridge- QFT
