    Why is this so difficult...

Thinking about the hardware infrastructure for such a project, if he's going to build the three systems himself: Then, an AMD/AMD 780g Chipset or Intel/Nvidia 9300-9400, will work just fine - for perhaps the server and the clients. I'm suggesting all three be the same to avoid finding...

    Why is this so difficult...

I like problems like this, but they required a lot of planning and hard work. First, do you have all three computers (server, client1, client2) yet? In general, I'd make them all the same. Buy three of everything. That way you won't run into problems with different hardware. However, the...

need a tuner. And need an advice/help

IMHO, Hauppauge makes the best TV tuner hardware. My experience is with standard definition from a cable company. Since you said it has to be connected with coax, it sounds like this is your situation as well. Check out the Hauppauge web site. You won't need a separate cable from the...

    Recommend me a good reciever

I have a Denon - 2809. After some setup issues, it works great. It has 4 HDMI inputs, 7.1, 1080p upscaling. In Canada it was more than $500, if you're in the US maybe you can catch a good sale on Friday. As others have already said: Yamaha, Denon, Pioneer and Onkyo all make good stuff.

    which version of vista?

I currently use vista-32 (ultimate) for my HTPC. I haven't noticed any serious problems specifically between Vista and its use as a HTPC. My audio (sound) configuration wasn't straight forward and vista still thinks I have stereo sound - however, 6 channel pass through does work (after a lot...

    Surround Sound 5.1 setup problem

After thinking about this, I think the limited user account is correct and the admin account is wrong. How many cables do you have from the PC the receiver? Are you using 1x "mini jack to RCA cable"? Are you using just one cable? with two channels of audio? If so, configure the PC for 2...

    wireless kb mouse choice

The range on this Gyration set is great. The range was the primary reason I bought it (most only seem to work 6-10ft at best). I haven't tried gaming on it. http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?logon=&langid=EN&sku_id=0665000FS10088992&catid=

Denon 2809 + ASUS MB + 6 Channel Audio over HDMI

Here is how I remember setting up my HTPC. I'm able to get 6 channels of audio over HDMI to the Denon receiver. The HDMI input on the receiver appears to be critical. I haven't yet been able to offload the processing to the GPU. Version 1.2: HTPC_Hardware.docx

AMD Mobo that works with a Denon

For me, Vista 32 NEVER reported (or reports) more than 2 speakers. However, the tests DO work. ie. DTS and DD. I'm not on my HTPC ATM, I should have time after work to post some pics.

AMD Mobo that works with a Denon

Good to hear! Look for Realtek updates too. Windows still doesn't report "6 speakers" (I put pics in another post), but 6 channel DTS and DD pass through does work.

    HDMI Question

In fact, you can get the audio from a PC to a TV (or receiver), with just one HDMI cable from the video card. You can buy cables that are DVI -> HDMI, or most video cards come with a DVI -> HDMI adapter.

AMD Mobo that works with a Denon

Funny, I thought this question from the OP got answered already. There was another post on this. UT did you try all the inputs? Gibroni, there is usually a BIOS switch too. To switch the audio from S/PDIF to HDMI.

AMD Mobo that works with a Denon

UT-Jackal, I also have a Denon 2809. I have this MB: ASUS M3A78-EM. A couple of things: - this MB (M3a78-EM) will only output 6 channels of audio over an HDMI cable - the HDMI input you use for a HTPC matters. This seems to be a somewhat well known problem with Denons. I use HDMI input...
