ARECA Owner's Thread (SAS/SATA RAID Cards)

Yeah, the stock cooler is attached via the 4 push pegs that are visable. Remove those and the big stupid heatsink comes right off. You'll see the plushy heat transfer pads epoxied to the heatsink that don't do crap. Take some rubbing alcohol (90%+) and clean the CPU die, expander HSP, and...

UEFI and ARECA 1882 RAID card installation woes

Are you running Areca for your boot? I'm thinking of flashing over to the EFI areca firmware and trying full UEFI on my x79.

Yeah, looks like it's the same PCB... The CPU is going to be closer to the bracket on the card, the expander is closer to the SFF-8087s

Those are two Zalman VF900-Cu GPU Coolers on my card... This cooler has the 'chipset' mounts (two mount points offset per chip) that really old video cards used to use, like the old Radeon X1600s, and Geforce 4MXs. It's the same mount setup on these Areca 1882ixs, and 1880ixs. The CPU...

UEFI and ARECA 1882 RAID card installation woes

I've got a 1882xi, on a ASUS x79 sabertooth... This is my last card to get setup with UEFI. Areca told me that there are people just using the Mac EFI BIOS. They wouldn't tell me that it'd work, but they hinted that it's being done already. Thoughts?

I did both the expander and the CPU, but I think you would be totally cool going with a passive heatsink on the expander... But I just do overkill, so I did both.

I got two of these: 2x http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118006&Tpk=VF-900%20cu&IsVirtualParent=1 And this was for the ARECA 1882ix card. Looks like the same PCB was used for all of the fullsize 1882ix's and 1880ix's,

ARECA Owner's Thread (SAS/SATA RAID Cards)

Yo! I live south of the hills in LA, where we don't have AC in rentals. It never gets stupid hot, but having a card that idles around 67-72 C was concerning me... I was clearing out some old PC parts and noticed a old GTX460 where I put a Zalman VF900-Cu heatpipe cooler on. I took a...
