hey myrkul, just because you're watching a dvd does not mean it is 16:9. it depends on what aspect ratio the production company produces the movies in. for example, let's take 3 blu-ray movies. meet the robinsons = aspect ratio is 1.78:1 which is technically 16:9. no black bars will be shown...

1. don't know. i heard new egg still has some older mfg dates in stock. and from a business perspective, they may be using the "first in, first out" method for their inventory meaning that the older models get shipped out first. but i have heard that many people have received a sept 07 mfg date...
