What to choose for my situation

If you wanted to raid them, you could use btrfs raid 1. Btrfs's raid 1 implementation just makes sure that each piece of data is on two drives. In your case, this would give 2.25TB of space. Btrfs is still considered fairly unstable (compared to ZFS for example) so if this is a 'production'...

Creating a new ZFS RAID-Z system

I use ZoL as my root for two arch linux installs perfectly. I've been running both for a few months now and have had no issues. One is a 6 drive Z2 and the other is dual SSD in mirror. I haven't had drive failures yet so I can't personally verify how well it handles that but no issues otherwise.

Steam Removes Game From User Libraries

This really has nothing to do with Steam. Square Enix shut down the DRM servers for this game which means that the game is literally unplayable. As even single player requires a checkin. If you bought a physical copy, then you currently would be holding a worthless piece of plastic as the game...

Millions Of Dogecoin Stolen In Christmas Hack

And bitcoin is backed by its encryption. Since the encryption is strong, you have good faith that your coins won't suddenly become worthless. If the USA defaulted on all of its debts from a congress filibuster or had to declare bankruptcy, your USA currency could become wrothless. Bitcoin...

What are the best looking non shooter pc games?

In the MMO realm, Tera Online is quite up there in prettyness. It isn't on par with the greatest PC games, but for an MMO, it blows away all of the other MMOs in the graphics department. GTA4 with mods and skyrim with mods can also get way up there.

    I'm curious... about your storage

Non formatted I have 12TB, 7.1TB usable though due to raid z2. I backup all other computers and devices (desktop, phone, and even my router config) to my zfs setup. Other than that I also store HD media on it and serve it with Plex. EDIT: I am also starting to run out of space... Only...

ZFS: bringing a disk online in an unavailable pool

Wow congratulations on the rebuild! I wasn't holding out much hope for you from so many drives failing out. If you wanted a more secure setup there are three routes you could take. One would be using a higher raidZ level, using 2 or 3. Two would be having each vdev in its own pool with some sort...

Can't decide on what option for storage solution

I would roll option two. If you take out the graphics card in that computer it should idle at probably around 85 watts (according to most of the sites I could find). What you could do as well is find the lowest idle power chip for that socket type which would likely run you 50-100$. Also, what...

HELP!!! Data files not showing up but disk space showing as used

How is this formatted? How are you doing the compression? Have you tried booting a linux livecd/usb to see if it can read?

    Why all the Drobo hate?

    1. They cost more than they should. This applies to all the prebuilt NAS solutions. 2. They use a proprietary RAID that is far from issue free. Earlier units would semi-commonly wipe data when moved to a new drobo. And the overall issue as a whole: 3. Proprietary RAID format. The only way to...

Cheapest/easiest way to store archived data in the cloud? 5TB and slowly growing

You could either do SSHFS to mount it to your local drive. Do SFTP directly, or do an rsync over ssh. If you did sshfs for example it allows you to mount it to your file system and you could drag n drop files, sshfs, besides inherent lag, behaves similarly to NFS share except the SSH portion...

Cheapest/easiest way to store archived data in the cloud? 5TB and slowly growing

Most colo are reasonably secure (no unauthorized persons on the data center floor, security cameras etc.) and they are pretty good about power/internet reliability due to having generators etc. You ship them/bring them a preassembled server they add to their racks and then you are good to go...

Cheapest/easiest way to store archived data in the cloud? 5TB and slowly growing

Amazon glacier services could act as a secondary backup. its 1 cent per GB per month. Although that adds up quickly... 5TB would be 5000GB or $50 a month. This ignores the cost/time delay if you needed to restore data though. You may be able to look into bitcasa too. Even with increased prices...

Is there a ZFS "For Dummies" Guide?

Are you wanting to know how to use it, how it does what it does (technical details) or a sort of broad overview of features?

Which OS for home ZFS system?

You can just do this for the install point sudo zfs create pool/OS -o mountpoint=none sudo zfs create pool/OS/Arch -o mountpoint=/ This makes your pool 'clean' and stops a recursive mount into your OS directory. Also, if you ever want to install another OS, you change Arch folder...
