Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
Too true too true.. it was one area of my system that was utter crap, as in bad quality as apposed to not being fast. EG if you plug the power cable in without turning it off at the wall it all lights up and my fans spin for a second. Can't be good.
Anyway the card is being sent back on...
Ok so I pulled the old PSU at too look at, it turns out it was a 400watt unit, and a bad one at that. I have just purchased a nice new 500w unit with twin 12v rails, PCI-E and SATA connectors built in, just to futureproof myself, and it still doesnt work.
Im going to send the card back...
All signs point to psu it looks like. Put the upgrading on hold for tonight, just come back from the hospital being stiched up, but any further insights would be appreciated.
Thanks for all your help guys

Ahh well.... its pretty much an unbranded unit I got from a 'computer fair' a couple of years ago. I no longer have the box, and I don't know any other way of finding out. It has nothing printed on it, just stupid fancy LED's....
Im going to take the card to a shop later today too see...
First off I know this isn't the greatest card ever, and my system is far from high end, but money/time etc.. blaaa blaa blaa..
Anyway, I have just tried to upgrade to the above card from a 5950 Ultra, the system starts with no bleeps or anything, ID's the card OK, but once it gets past the mem...

pretty sure i left the 8gig over, anywho surly it would acctually be more than the stated size due to the extra 24bits per kilobyte, like RAM? plus 8gig is a lot to gyp you by anyway, bigger than my last hard disk! what if i had my heart set on storing a single
160gb file on it? im sure its...
When I set up my system i partitioned my drive into two sections, leaving 8gb of my 160gb SATA Maxtor for a small Linux install. Well its not going to be linux, its going to be WinXp 64bit.
When i go to use partition magic to name and format the spare room, it reports that I have a single...
so my new maxtor 160gb SATA drive is going to be fucked soon? Mine locks somtimes and just before it did it this time i heard a click. I have no money to replace this, surley maxtor should give me a new one........
Im experiencing exactly the same problem as you Bilko, a sudden drop in speed that stays around and also it takes ages to connect. Somtimes when I restart it helps for a while but not long. I don't acctually have anything valuble to write, but its sure as hell in my intrest too keep this alive :(
