WD Easystore 14TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive - $210

Drive is WD140EMFZ, looks to be helium.

Windows automatically looks for share.cmd share.bat etc?

These both look like viruses or adware trying to spread. I would check the source computer and run a MalwareBytes scan on it.

    Amazon storage

Amazon's EULA forbids you from uploading copyrighted material, so there's that.

Next advice on WHS v1 Upgrade path

I went from WHS v1 (Drive Extender) to WHS 2011 (DrivePool) to WS 2012 R2 (DrivePool) using all the same hardware and cards. I upgraded every component at different intervals, but you CAN do an in-place upgrade. DrivePool is the best option, it's the most like Drive Extender, and you can...

HGST's 10TB drive uses custom software to access shingled platters

68MB write speeds are still decent, considering 10TB. Once a week/month/year backups are the targeted use case here and I think it's perfect.

Single fast m.2 vs 2 SATA III SSD in RAID 0?

I ran two 840 Evo's in RAID 0 for three months and I swear I couldn't tell the difference between a single drive or two in RAID 0. At 500MB+ a sec, disk IO is NOT an issue, CPU is. Unless you are running several dozen VMs, or a very very high IO database, I just don't see a use case where a...

New Norco 4224 Build And I Need Suggestions Please!

I have a Norco RPC-4224 with an IBM M1015 and a HP SAS expander running 4x 1TB, 8x 2TB and 12x 3TB drives on Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard and StableBit's DrivePool. Could not be happier, windows based management, high performance file sharing and remote desktop capability. FlexRaid is...

    Seagate 8TB Internal HDD

Wow, was a load of BS. SMR is perfectly fine for serving data constantly. The "shingled" aspect only comes into play when writing. Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Only the individual band needs to be re-written, and it's handled all on the drive's firmware. If anything, the inherent...

This... it's a bit expensive now, but reliable as all hell.

Windows 8 Multiple Drives with 1 Drive Letter

You backup files, not disks. I'm a long time DrivePool user, love it.

Windows 8 Multiple Drives with 1 Drive Letter

Sounds like you're looking for some kind of pooling solutions. Look into Microsoft's Storage Spaces. There are third party options as well, such as StableBit's DrivePool and Division M's DriveBender.

    NAS behind 10/2Mbit ADSL modem

Any video at < 2 mbps is going to be painful. Audio should work perfectly fine though.

    Sanity Check: External SSD Filesystem?

exFAT works for this, Windows, Mac OS and Ubuntu all support R/W if you have recent version of them all.

Agreed, this seems wasteful and designed to cater to HardForum members :P
