Thanks a ton, man! The setup file said it only ran on Intel chipsets (???) but pointing Device Manager at that folder did the trick.

Would you mind posting the driver that worked? I am having the exact same issue -- Z97X-SLI, just upgraded from 8 to 8.1, and now I've got the SM Bus showing up without a driver. Fresh install of the chipset drivers, couldn't find it on Windows Update, couldn't find it on my motherboard's...
