The only game I bought in 2018 was Battlefield V, and man, its got some problems (design and gameplay related). If I had to vote for the best game I played this year regardless of the release date, it would be Witcher 3 and its expansions.

I am not sure about needing GSYNC. It maybe a matter of preference, but I can guarantee you, modern games don't get 144Hz all that easily on ultra settings. Witcher 3, a 2015 game, does not consistently run over 100FPS on ultra settings with HD textures. Now, one might argue that the mods...

Yeah...I can't ever go back to a single display anymore. Perhaps I can work with a large 4k screen...but a single 1080p or 1440p monitor is not something I can work with. I need a secondary display.

I am so glad I bought a 1080Ti (for gaming) in December, when the prices werent as insane. I paid $779 for the MSI Gaming version, and its fantastic. I am looking at the prices now, and they are insane. I would hate to be shopping for a GPU at this time...
