Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
From your requirements, I would suggest giving Ubuntu a try. You can get a feel for it by using a Live CD/USB before installing it. All distros will give you access to a shell if you need to use it. :)
Blackberry Q10 or Samsung Captivate Glide.
Captivate Glide has dual core, 1GB RAM, 8MP camera, and it can be flashed to Android 4.4.3 via Cyanogenmod and other ROMs.
Your GT70 is a Desktop Replacement laptop with a 17"+ display. I doubt you bought it to be used away from the desk for very long otherwise you wouldn't have bought such a big ass laptop. In the case that you have it at the desk 95% of the time, leaving the battery in will not impact your life or...
Not every Linux distro is a resource hog. It totally depends on which distro a user chooses.
Finding drivers? I don't think you've used Linux in at least a few years. The odds of someone having to install a driver on a *buntu system are slim to none, and even if you do have to install one...
After using Ubuntu since 5.10, I've jumped ship. I was recently rocking 12.04 LTS and gave 13.04 a shot in VirtualBox. I don't like it one bit. I don't like that they're keeping the Amazon lens. I don't like the direction the distro is going. I've chosen Arch as my new distro of choice and I...
Not required. I've been using my x200 tablet in a worksite environment for years without any special protection or care. Still looks great and no scratches. ;)
I abuse the hell out of my x200 tablet and I've never encountered a problem. I work with it in freezing and hot temperatures and expose it to a lot of dust. Not once have I ever thought, "Well I better be gentle with a laptop with a single hinge." I throw the bastard from a few feet up onto the...
I will disagree with that. It is fully dependant on what games you play and how often. If you run older games (<2006), Wine makes many of them run (nearly) flawlessly. Newer games I can't comment on. I will say that Ubuntu's Unity may complicate some Wine usage.
As for a laptop recommendation...
I am also going to give #! a try after enjoying Ubuntu for years. I didn't care much for Xubuntu or Kubuntu, and Unity always seems to be giving me issues. Moving around in Crunchbang is effortless with Openbox, so perhaps it'll be my new favorite distro. :)
^i'm on my i5 right now, this web page loaded .005 seconds faster than the C2D. Big difference!!:)
I must not be [h]ard enough to notice the difference. :(
My C2D is terribly slow at video encoding, and I'd use the i5 for that. However, daily tasks such as web browsing, typing documents, viewing HD video, they are essentially equal.
Benchmarks, sure the i5 is better. However, real world? No difference at all paired with a SSD. The i5 also runs hotter and makes the fan run louder. I'd trade my i5 system over the C2D any day, regardless of the newer technology.
