I have to think that's pretty good for a 3970X on air--are your room ambient temps pretty low too? Just to be clear, when you say stock, you mean at straight 3.8 MHz? I've been chasing this low temp ghost on my 3960X and so many variables seem to play into the equation, like the default...
Yep, sounds like my chip as well... my motherboard has a lot of power control settings like AI control (has the DOCP/XMP setting), performance, TPU, and that precision boost overclock and heck I don't know what half those things do so I leave them at defaults which is usually auto. As I closed...
Those are idle temps for you? Those 50+ temps are what I'm seeing as well at stock although I'm not using custom water... I'm thinking I'm not getting the water flow I'm supposed to be getting even though it is maxed out at 100% DC, so maybe a weak/failing pump. Whisper quite at 100%, but...
Alrighty, this niggled at me all night, so ran some tests today just using cinebench R20 and adjusting my RAM frequencies from 3400 down to the default 2933 to see if that would help my idle temps. It didn't. And suprisingly, it didn't even affect my cinebench score which remained virtually...
So this is something I'm trying to figure out as well with my 3960x as it idles in the 50's as well. I suspected that my 128 GB's of memory overclock and tighter timings was the culprit, but I'm leaning way over to needing a better cooling solution. I spent the day running cinebench R20 at...
Yep, that's pretty much where my thoughts are too given the temps... better cooling would help. Outside that, the only other thing I can do is lower my memory frequencies and timings to take some of the load off the memory controller or lower my SOC voltages (@1.05V with the 3400 settings), and...
So I'm at the RAM tweaking point in my 3960X threadripper build and so I'm looking for any lessons learned so far and found this thread. My main components include a Zenith II Extreme, a Deepcool Castle 360EX AIO (the easy route), and 128 GB Corsair Dominator Platinum @ 3600 C18 (the only 3600...
Welp, the stars aligned on mine, and I just signed for it. Not only did I save myself a sick day tomorrow, but the memory I ordered also came in on the same truck! Already received my motherboard, cooler, and new nvme drives last week, so needless to say, I know what the rest of my day is...
I ordered from there as well last Thursday, and my 3960X has made its way from Memphis to my local UPS... hoping it's out for delivery tomorrow but still showing Tuesday in the tracker. I'm thinking UPS is overloaded with Christmas orders jamming their system and it might have been wiser in...
Just a quick update--I got a UPS shipping number and it's in transit due in on Tuesday with signature required. Last time UPS delivered something with a signature required they just dropped it off at my front door... so I see a sick day in my future.
Right? While those two 3960X's were showing stock, no preorders were displayed, but as soon as the last one was sold, all of sudden there were a bunch of preorders shown for at least 270 or so of those future 900 coming. Not sure what to make of it, but trying to remain hopeful that one of...
...so just as I finished that last post, got the attached email receipt (I blanked out the personal stuff)... it all looks ok for the moment and kinda expecting that next email where somebody made a mistake or something... I'm hopeful though. :)
Yeah, I have to wonder as well. That last 3960X in stock is finally gone and now the site is only accepting orders against a future 900(!) that are coming... worst case is I cancel the order if it really wasn't a true stock issue and fall back to my B&H preorder.
Thanks, so thought it over more... felt like that guy in the movies that didn't know whether to cut the red wire or the blue wire... so I cut the red one and ordered one. The stock did go down one, for what it's worth, but I don't get a status on my order until tomorrow. That leaves one more...
Hi all again, my first post here ever was killed as spam and I was banned an hour ago and have since got reinstated, so I obviously haven't quite got the hang of posting links... but anyhow, I noticed over on shopblt.com (no link this time) that they have a couple 3960x's in stock. I have one...
