SNR... What is it and which is better?

I don't think its anything close to 75 parts signal to 1 part noise, more like 10^7.5 parts signal to one part noise. Because of the way the scale is measured, every 3 dB improvement in SNR causes the noise to be half as powerful relative to the signal, as compared to before. So an 80dB SNR is...

    Catalyst 10.12 Leaked via Guru

+1 I just moved to the new drivers today. At this point, I'm willing to trade off the extra performance from Overdrive to fix the ****ing mouse corruption, lol. Hopefully they will have both issues fixed in an upcoming driver release.

AMD Catalyst 10.11 are Now Out

IIRC the 2D clock issue that I was experiencing while overclocking disappeared starting at version 10.7.

AMD Catalyst 10.11 are Now Out

I disagree. The mouse cursor corruption when using 2 monitors with an ATI card seems to be a widespread problem (as is the cursor corruption with a single monitor in SC2). Assuming that in every case, it is an issue with the way that these people built their computers and installed software is...

AMD Catalyst 10.11 are Now Out

Looks like the 2D clocks are getting all messed up again in windows when my card is overclocked (157/300 is not sufficent to run dual monitors). As a result, my second screen flickers like crazy when overdrive is enabled. This was fixed before in previous drivers, but now the issue is back, so...

    Best 5850 Currently Available?

Thanks alot! I got the voltage control working in AB, and now my card is stable at 950/1125 with a 75mV voltage boost. :)

    Best 5850 Currently Available?

+1, very quiet and cool video card, but keep in mind it is more expensive than other 5850's. One thing you should keep in mind is that you have to use the ASUS tool to modify the voltage as this is a non-reference 5850. I have had difficulties getting the tool to retain the overvolt settings, so...

Argh! 5870 powerplay flickering issues - one monitor! Driving me insane

Oddly enough, I found that the 10.6 Catalyst drivers fixed the flickering issue... In my case (ATI 5850), any GPU memory speed below 1000 MHz causes flickering. The pre-10.6 drivers would down-clock the memory in 2D mode, causing this annoying condition. From my experience, the new Catalyst...

    Cheating on ASUS

I have the GA-P55A-UD4P and I absolutely love it. I haven't found any quirks yet with this board - it is very stable - quite a contrast with the EVGA 780i sitting in my other rig. My dad has an ASUS board (P7P55D LE) as well and after overclocking with both P55 boards I prefer the Gigabyte BIOS...

    GTA 4 FPS Issues

You are definitely limited by your cpu. I have tested the 5870 with both the q6600 and the i5-750, and even at similar clock speeds (3.4-3.6) the i5-750 runs the game with far less slowdowns. I wouldn't worry about getting a new cpu yet though, as this is one of the only games that I have seen...

    OC'ing a Q6600 from 3.2 to 3.4?

You can try to play with the FSB and multi to see if it helps. For me it didn't work too well as 780i chipsets don't seem to play nice with high FSB's. Out of curiosity, what type of motherboard are you using?

i5 750 vs AMD Phenom II X4 940 Black Edition

The i5 is faster, no question about it... Some people would argue for the bang/buck ratio of the AMD, however, which is a valid point. I would guess that you can pick up an AMD system for 100-200 less than an i5 system. Whether the extra performance is worth it, is up to you.

    OC'ing a Q6600 from 3.2 to 3.4?

My Q6600 G0 simply won't do more than 3.4 GHz with my current MB (see sig below), and that frequency requires a lot of voltage (~1.5V). Sounds to me like you may have just hit the limit of your chip.

    choice on gigabyte boards UD4

It appears that they don't shut off completely, but revert to the 2.5GT/s lanes (see link below), effectively cutting the USB3.0/SATA6 bandwidth in half. I don't know how much this would affect performance (I guess the SATA 6Gbps would now just be a SATA2 port). USB 3.0 should still be way...

    which processor 860 or 750 ?????

You are giving up Hyper-Threading - the 750 only can run 4 threads at once, the 860 can do 8. For the most part, this only has an impact in extremely CPU intensive tasks such as video encoding. For gaming, the 860 and 750 should be equal more or less, so if that is all you will do I would get...
