    Interesting, that opens up the possibility to buy cheap old servers with more RAM, if you got a place to store them in, like a basement or so, were you can't hear the noise. I'll keep that in mind for future server builds.

    Thnx for all the replies and thoughts. Free WMware only supports 32GB, same for the motherboard, maxes out at 32GB. Almost all IOs will come from bittorrent. either transmission in FreeNAS or utorrent in a windows VM. Except for sequential writes when im backing up new raw files imported...

    Is the Hitachi 5 tb 7200 rpm really faster than hgst 4 tb nas 7200 rpm? More than the platter density accounts for? Both are Hitachi drives.
