    Asus A8R-MX/SI?

Never had that problem myself so motherboard design is not to blame. I may have set the floppy type in BIOS before hooking mine up, however. Also the user manual is available there.

Found a Samsung 970P review... in hungarian :P

I have mine on a Fellowes Monitor Riser. They have them at Staples: http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?webid=504181&AffixedCode=WW The one I have is older and cheaper and is adjustable in height too. It looks like this...

    dithering on the 2405fpw

http://www.cs.iastate.edu/~bearoso/smt3.png Anyone notice banding here? I also tried saving the .png and it's properties were 32 bit 1600x1200 and my monitor is 1280x1024 16.7M PVA. If you fool around with the gamma, contrast and brightness in display settings I can see strong banding...

    Which samsung to get????

If you can afford the 193p+ I would go with it.

    Display choice . . . opinions?

In that price range and lower I would look for an off-lease 21" Trinitron tube CRT.

    monitor problems ?

Well it doesn't sound like anything to do with monitors...could it be a codec problem? I don't have a DVD player but I use ffdshow to render most videos...have you tried this? (And also make sure you have lastest video card drivers and latest DirectX installed.)...

    monitor problems ?

You can look at this more like a bump, but I would assume you've installed the monitor driver and verified that the resolution and refresh rate are the values recommended by Samsung, right?

    Fly behind LCD glass

It might be safer to send it back and tell them "you noticed it right away" rather than taking the screen apart yourself. It's not your fault unless you already opened it. If you don't do anything, it could get worse...what if it's just resting before laying some eggs???

New AUO 8ms MVA panel on the way

Very true! Another example would be this (NOT behardware!) review of the P19-2 at http://www.prad.de/en/monitore/review_fujitsu_siemens_p19-2.html Obviously, it's hard for reviewers to reach a consensus on the SAME monitor, let alone the same panel. There are countless examples in this...

Absolute Best 19" LCD and 20.1" LCD

I have the Samsung 193p+ and I think it's outstanding. It's available in Canada now, not sure about rest of world. I wasn't able to do a comparison to the VP191B because I couldn't find the Viewsonic locally in a store that unconditionally allowed returns. This was important to me because...

Samsung SyncMaster 193P Plus: A Review

I tried the magictune...didn't have any problems with it freezing computer, but in the spirit of simplicity, I decided not to permanently install it, using Drive Image to revert the computer to the image I made before installing it. I installed the monitor driver only and use the following...

    Good gaming 19" LCD

I own one and it is superb. Since it is very new, I don't believe that it has been professionally reviewed yet, but I wouldn't really care because I trust my own eyes and had return privileges. I saw two reviews of OTHER manufacturers' monitors that use the same panel but since they weren't...

    19" CRT Recommendations

I live in Canada and the off-lease Trinitron CRT's seem to be available at almost every small independent shop in my area, as well as online. Just search Google for Dell P1110, for example. The one I bought was $CAN 168 (=$US 136) and it was pretty much mint. Online in my area, I have...
