That's what I did.. got rid of my Z170N Gaming 5 which I never really used (because TB supporrt is a must with my peripherals) and bought a brand new Z270 Gaming itx/ac - that way I could sell my "temporary" ATX TB3 mainboard from gigabyte as well.- Notting

what bios version on your mainboard ? Btw. it's based on the Intel Alpine Ridge chip, nothing like "roughly patched-on".. The Z170N Gaming 5 just lacks the official certification for Thunderbolt 3. My order on Amazon for the TB to TB3 adapter from StarTech is getting pushed back again and again.. (from early March to mid June atm) .. annoying :/ same for the release of the TB3 dock. Nope, the manual is actually correct at this point because they used a thunderbolt "Alpine Ridge" chip for USB 3.0/1 connectivity. Standard performance for USB 3.0/3.1 is a maximum of 10Ggps, using an Intel Thunderbolt DSLxxx chip gives you a little advantage over standard because you...- Notting
