So I didn't end up biting on the ENVY. I kinda feel relieved since it was more money than I wanted to spend anyway. This weekend I noticed the Acer K272HULbmiidp is on sale for $300. Any thoughts on it? It's listed as IPS, but I've seen some reviews claiming it's actually a VA.(?) If it's...
Anyone have any word on the mounting holes on the 2730MD? (The ENVY goes off sale today, so I kinda want to decide one way or the other.) Thanks for all the info thus far.
How are the VESA mounting holes on the Crossover 2730MD? On my current monitor, the screws just attach to the plastic back panel, which allows a fair bit of flex and jiggling if the monitor gets bumped on either side.
How bad is the PWM on these? Is PWM common in other panels? Before I got the 27" IPS, I just used a 22" TN that I'd gotten on sale in 2008. Would it have likely used PWM? Do the Yamakasi's use PWM? I don't know that I've ever seen the effect, so I'm not sure if it would bother me or not.
A few years ago I snagged one of the Yamakasi Q270's. The less-than-TN response time has never been a problem for me. I never even adjusted anything other than brightness. It just looked great as-is. I love it, but lately I've been looking to replace it with something else due to its lack of...
I do appreciate that. :)
On the plus side, I typically sit 2.5 - 3 feet from the monitor when watching anything (which is when I'll care most about blacks). About the closest I lean in is 2 feet, but that's typically when I'm scrutinizing details or reading text. As far as graphics card power...
Is it likely that they would at least be no worse? Given that I'm not exactly a monitor-phile, the lack of AG coating and greater uniformity/color reproduction of an IPS panel might be improvement enough even if black levels are not objectively any better. (Sorry if I sound like I'm trying to...
Okay great, that's what I was hoping. Now I just need to hear that they have decent black levels and I'll be sold. :)
One other thing I needed to ask about: I notice a lot of the sellers of these monitors on eBay have charts that list graphics card compatibility. I have a Radeon HD 5770...
I lack the know-how/equipment to test my current monitor's black levels, but according to a user review on Newegg (not necessarily authoritative), it achieves around .19 cd/m^2 when calibrated. I'm a noob though, so mine probably isn't even configured to have that low of blacks. I just turned...
Does anyone who has ordered one of these know what their calibrated black levels are? They're right near my budget and if the black levels would be at least marginally better than by current monitor (an aging Acer X223Wbd), then I don't think I'll be able to hold back. I saw that the Achieva...
Wow, this is the first I've heard of those, but a cursory glance through the threads/articles/videos about them has seriously tempted me.
I see that the (30") Achieva Shimian QH300 is rated poorly on prad.de, but the 27" models are different I gather? If one of these really would be an...
I've seen it believe it or not, but my needs have shifted slightly since that discussion was started (a few months ago), and through the responses therein I was led to this site, which appears to have a lot more comprehensive discussion going on regarding displays. Not to mention, hearing more...
Hey guys, the thread title pretty much sums it up. I'm very uninitiated when it comes to picking out a monitor. I currently am using an Acer X223Wbd (22", 1680x1050) and am looking to buy something a little nicer and pass on the old monitor to my dad. Overall, I've been fairly happy with the...
