Working with Sibelius... are you sure you want a monitor that has only 1080 vertical pxels? It might be worth saving a bit and aiming for something like the Dell 2209WA - it also pivots, which might be of real use if you are composing a large orchestral piece with many different parts. For...
I am facing a similar issue, but am still researching.
You may wish to try looking for a monitor with a lower cdm2 rating. Monitors with a cdm2 rating of 300-400 or more will be brighter, and more difficult to lower to a workable level. NEC makes a couple 22" TN's that have a 250 cdm2...
I guess I need to be a bit more precise. When I can get the adjustments I need under my current setup (one remaining good CRT), I can get about 1 1/2 inches from the screen for as much clarity as I will get (at that distance I will sometimes notice the "screen door"). Things are legible but...
Dave, thanks for the comments. I have very much appreciated your comments over the couple of years I have followed the forum.
I have arranged for the return. Under the circumstances Dell is being kind, and not charging any restocking fee.
I had already tried all sorts of settings in the...
OK, some further conclusions after playing more with brightness and contrast and the different modes. At the level of brightness/contrast I need to be able to use the monitor, the oversaturation of bright colors is one of the main source of fatigue and strain (even using "cool" settings). In...
Whoisthisreally, thanks for the link. It does look like the brightness levels could go low enough. But... they also reported very severe inverter humming below maximum brightness. For music content creation, that effectively eliminates the F2380.
As a side note: the Samsung tech rep I...
obobski, unfortunately the loss of clarity at non-native resolution, eliminates that option. I had given some thought to getting a 32" HDTV, but general consensus at the forum seemed to be that using an HDTV for computer, usually didn't work that well (though some have had a degree of success)...
Dave, thanks for chiming in... I hoped you would have a comment. My gut feel about the 2209WA was similar, that the reputed "white glow" would be killer. Thanks especially for the comments on Win7.
Whoisthisreally, primary uses are for music composition using Finale 2005b - a music...
Oh, need to mention, that on the CRT, those settings presume, green text, black background. I cannot look at a primarily white screen for more than a couple minutes.
nomu, good question. In context, I mean number of photons the screen is emitting. Non-native resolution has proved a problem, due to decreased clarity.
I will take a look at the Samsung F2380, and the HP. Your comment about minimum brightness is helpful. I do need a fair range of color...
Thanks for the comment. Unfortunately, the U2410 has dithering issues in its RGB mode, and the brightness of wide gamut colors in "any" mode (including at least Adobe RGB on the 2709W) make we wary. OTOH, the 2209WA might be an option, as an IPS panel with standard gamut.
BTW, I should...
Greetings, some time back I asked for advice regarding purchasing a monitor for use with severe sight loss - legal blindness, and based on that advice I (finally) purchased a Dell 2709W, that I received two days ago.
Unfortunately, it looks like I will have to return it. Its wide gamut and...
qwertz325, have you thought about looking for a monitor with a standard larger pixel size? The 27" monitors have a .30 pixel size, so even native resolution will be somewhat magnified compared to a 24" and especially a 22".
