The Sony FW900 is 16:10 and 120Hz-capable.
Edit: but not an LCD, of course. And it can do 1920x1200 (higher with loss of horizontal detail) OR 120Hz, but not both.
I have no problem with the brighness on my new iPad. I used it outdoors a lot when I was in California back in May. The only really annoying thing is that you can't use it in portrait with polarized sunglasses. Most reading apps and the good browsers let you adjust minimum brightness for reading...
Oops, missed that. Anyway this is a silly discussion. He's going to get a dock and a video card for his 9-year-old laptop just to drive a 30" monitor at 1280x800? The laptop itself has a 1400x1050 LCD.
1.Yes. 1080 or 1050 pixels is cramped if you want to zoom in.
2. IPS have the best viewing angles but lose brightness even though they retain color fidelity. PVA panels usually have excellent viewing angles but some gamma shift.
For your purposes I'd recommend the Dell 2408WFP...
