    Dirt Cheap Router for DD-WRT

Hard to beat this deal right now on NewEgg for the Linksys E3000-RM 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz Dual Band Gigabit Wireless Router. ($46, free shipping) It's a refurb, but seems like a great deal.

    8GB DDR3 Unbuffered ECC UDIMMs

NetWerkz - thanks for the response. I came to the same conclusion myself after writing that post. It looks like unless I swap CPUs out, I'm stuck w/ the 16GB ceiling as my i7 only supports unbuffered memory.

    8GB DDR3 Unbuffered ECC UDIMMs

I've been looking for a compatible 8GB stick for my X8SIL-F as well. I have an i7 proc installed, which leads me toward unbuffered memory as well. I noticed today that NewEgg was advertising these: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231486 $235 for 2x8GB. What I...

    Hitachi 2TB Harddrive Owner's Thread

To the question of 7200 vs 5400 being worth the extra $?? I don't think so for home media streaming use. The 5400s supposedly run cooler, which is a plus, though in actual experience, I don't find a huge difference in my case (I have 11 7200 RPM and 2 of the 5400 RPM drives). This might be...

Re: Amazon, in my experience, they're even better. All you have to do is select 'faulty/doesn't work' in their return options and you get the pre-paid label. I've never had them question something I sent back as broken.

    Hitachi 2TB Harddrive Owner's Thread

To the last question re: performance and RAID, there was a review posted a couple of pages back. I think it's the best info available at this point. Since they're so new, I don't think there is a lot more specific RAID performance info available, but given the data in that review, I don't see...

    Hitachi 2TB Harddrive Owner's Thread

Ok, so to answer my own question to odditory with a post from him on STH Forums: For $60 / drive, I think it's worth taking a chance and doing some testing and I look forward to hearing what odditory's testing results in as well. Worst case, I might just start a new RAID vs mixing with my...

5K3000 2TB NewEgg Shell Shocker today for $60 after $10 rebate. Odditory, to confirm, as far as you know, these are ok to mix/match with the previous version Hitachi 2TB in the same RAID array? If so, I'm going to be stocking up today. ;)

Agreed odditory, though FWIW I'm interested in the continuation of that discussion, so if one of you could please post the link to where you pick it up from here, I'll follow along there. Thanks.

$99.99 at Fry's (in Austin at least) again today.

    Hitachi 2TB Harddrive Owner's Thread

I find them quite a bit louder than the WD Greens I was using previously. I ended up moving the server to a (ventilated) closet so I don't have to listen to them anymore, but compared to the greens I had before, I did notice a difference. I remember reading about these on NewEgg when first...

What was the Fry's in Austin selling them for? If they were on sale, I must have missed it (again!)

Thanks for the comment odditory. Let us know once you have your first 50 and have paved the way for the rest of us to safely mix & match. :D

    Hitachi 2TB Harddrive Owner's Thread

I'm assuming mixing/matching the 7k3000 2TB drives in a RAID array with the 7k2000 2TB drives is a bad idea? If that is the case, and they really are going to stop putting out the 7k2000s, I'm going to have to go on a shopping spree.
