You're all making a simple problem too complicated.
Just edit the 6970 bios you've been using and change the device ID to 6950,save, and re-flash your cards.
You'll still have your 6970, clocks and voltages as you did b4 , the card will just be recognized as a 6950 instead of a 6970, which is...
Galaxy offers a very nice non-reference design GTX 680 with copper heat-sink and aluminum fins for excellent cooling.
And you've gotta love the blue logo that lights up, it would look great through the window of my blue lighted/water-cooled CM HAF X case.
Since this post was bumped recently and i contributed about my x-fire 7xxx series card experience in FC3, i figured it would helpful to those who are reading this to know that there is a better fix that works in FC3 with AMD cards in x-fire than just limiting the FPS.
It is mentioned above...
The guy that posted that review on Newegg about getting flickering at the desktop and flickering in Skyrim is in for a rude awakening when he gets his replacement card.
Those are both Known issues with 12.11 beta 11 drivers that AMD are aware of and are working on.

Just put two them in my wife's rig, 1125core / 1375mem with no voltage tweaking, my review on Newegg is under DEWMAN.
Love these cards, they overclock very well and cooling is excellent and most of all quiet.
I tested both cards individually up to 1200core / 1450mem b4 x-firing them.
Of...
Ended up buying two of those Sapphires.
Tested both individually up to 1200/1450. (didn't try higher)
Put them in x-fire at a conservative 1125/1375 and performance is great.
I didn't see any reason to really push the memory since it didn't seem to make that much of a difference in performance...
You'll be fine with Far Cry 3 at least.(i dont play BF3)
The 12.11 beta 11 drivers along with the 12.11 CAP2 profiles play the game just fine and smooth with a pair of 7970's if you limit the fps to 60.

Also,I agree, buying an Ivy Bridge would be a waste since you already have an OC'ed 2600k.
And yes HT means hyper threading.
Most games don't benefit from it being enabled and your cpu will run cooler and overclock higher with it off/disabled.
I just save a lower overclocked...
Upgrading wifes pc, and need some advice.
We've decided on two 7950's in x-fire , but i havent been following current GPU's enough to know what the best choices are.
First, her pc specs...... Intel 2500k @ 4.6ghz , 16gb DDR3, ASrock Z68 Xtreme 4 (non-gen 3)
,Seasonix x750 PSu and currently a...
Has anyone run more recent tests with either of the suggested changes in the above two posts?
Shouldn't be too hard to get an Asus P8z68-V Pro non gen 3 vs an Asus P8z68-V Pro gen3 (or z77) for a more accurate comparison where the cpu itself is a non-factor.
Has anyone ever found a "real" solution to this?
It happens with my X-fi Xtreme music and my Asus Xonar DG.
The microphone "listen to this device" works but still seems like more of a "workaround" then actually solving the problem.
BTW: both pc's have a clean install of Win7 64bit.
You may as well set Afterburner to show the cards clocks also, so you can confirm one card isn't clocking up to 3d speeds all the time for sure.(it would explain the 2%)
Sometimes a quick alt/tab out and back into the game will "trigger" the cards to 3d mode in BF3 when that happens.
Tweaktown may not have signed an NDA, but the supplier of the cards certainly did!
That is why TweakTown avoided doing any tests which might reveal who they are, because they KNOW it breaks the NDA for their supplier.
TweakTown is not quite the "innocent victim" they claim to be.
