    Is there a delay set and is quick boot enabled? I'm not sure about asus' bios, but i know the Intel bios has both those options so i would assume ASUS would as well.

    I would try plugging it into the TV directly and see if it has the same behavior if so it might be a resolution/ color settings issue with the TV if it stops then you know its the receiver causing the behavior and you can (hopefully) just run an optical cable to the receiver.

    1680 x 1050 alternative aspect ratios...

    drop it to 1280 x 800 if you graphics card can't perform at that then its really time for a new graphics card. Your monitor is made to display in 16:10 format so as long as you stay in that aspect ratio you should be able to lower your res to bring your graphics card to its optimum performance...
