Power Saving Techniques In AMD's Steamroller

Most AMD CPU's undervolt quite well, though obviously you won't be doing overclocking. I undervolted my CPU it's certainly not pulling 95w at full load

    AMD A10-6790K APU Review

Where I live this CPU is actually more expensive than the 6300, thus I don't see the point unless the GPU performance is a factor. For traditional CPU intensive work the FX Has it beaten clearly

Well worth it a case and PSU are not that expensive. Still a decent processor for most people

Future APU's and the end of FX

I don't really care I'm not likely to be changing sockets for years. Quite happy with my current FX setup In 4/5 years time I'll update to a DDR4 12 core something if it's an APU then fine. I do make the odd build so I might look at the APU's for there. The problem with the APU concept is...

    Corsair CS Modular 550W

Looks good but price is almost identical to the Corsair RM550 80 Plus Gold 550W I'd go for that one over this, though they are both decent PSU's

    Some general CPU advice needed

I use lightroom 5 and the 6300 has no problems with big mp raw files. Be wary of some benchmarks with PS though I don't use 150 layers and 20 filters thus many benches are pretty much useless! Either 6300 (forget 6350) or 8320 they're unlocked all the FX processors so why waste money on more...

That's the problem at the moment there isn't a higher performance option for FM2+

More FM2+ boards announced, including some high-end variants

Problem is if you're not that interested in the APU side of things, and many are not. Some folks go with a dedicated GPU (for good reason) and on the super budget side you just don't need any kind of power there for an office/basic pc, least no more than the integrated solutions offer. FM2+...

    Socket AM3+ is DEAD

Current and predicted APU's are not a solution for performance desktop users, if that changes we shall see, but I'm happy with AM3+ and I'm not sure it's dead yet, until official news comes out I'm on the fence. And the grim reality of all CPU's is that sockets change at some point. AMD has...

    Budget AMD PC builds

FX is a solid CPU but more for budget conscious buyers looking for max bang per buck and doing more meaty type tasks. I used to build Athlon II x4 systems for folks on a budget and doing video/photo work, but without putting a huge dent in the wallet! Everyone was happy with those machines We...

9590 all the speed now -$500

Well not entirely true there are IPC improvements and I know as I updated from a 6100 to 6300 FX, even running at the same clock speeds there is an uptake on performance with the newer processor. It's not "massive" but still it is improved 10-15% seems about right

9590 all the speed now -$500

Not sure were you've been but lots of software is multi threaded esp photo and video processing software. Those extra 2 cores would give a boost to performance that would smoke the i7's in this kind of application workload. We've been down the more work per clock cycle road and that's fine...

9590 all the speed now -$500

I don't really see the point of this processor. It would have made a lot more sense to have a 10 threaded/10 core (5 module design) which would have allowed it to really pump things up for heavily threaded applications. Rather than pumping clock speeds which don't really yield massive gains...
