Just an observation: sometimes hot-plugging doesn't work (at least with Areca 1880x). When you hot-plug drives into the chassis, the drives show up as as "Failed" state. However, if you reboot then the drives would show up.

Something is definitely limiting the throughput, but I am not able to pinpoint what it is just yet. Added 4 more drives to the array and put it back on R0. Throughput is still around 650MB/s for read, and 770MB/s for write. I am initializing the 12 drive array to R6 and see if it's the card...

The previous screen shot (post #171) was R0. Attached below is R6 with 8 drives, from a newer version of HDTune. I don't know what to expect, that's the reason that I am trying to get some of you guys to post your performance stats. This is the first time I am using a SAS expander with a new...

    Interesting cheap JBODs available

The 500MB/s limit was due to my pci-e bus. I had it at a physically 8x slot, but actually only runs at 4x. I moved the card to another slot (16x physical runs at 8x), and got a speed improvement to 650MB/s. I was hoping for a 2x improvement, but looks like only a 30% improvement. Looks like...

Attached to the 2nd port, no difference. The card doesn't even recognized the extra port.

No, I didn't use 2 cables as the labels on the enclosure says one of the "In", and the other is "Out". I had assumed it's for daisy-chaining. Let me know if this assumption is wrong.

I just changed the RAID set to RAID0 just trying to see how much throughput I can get out from it, but surprisingly, it's also around 500MB/sec. Anyone know what's limiting to 500MB/sec? I am using Windows 2008 R2. Thanks.

A quick test with 2 drives in RAID0 yielded average 320MB/sec using HDTune (seems too high for me though)

I think this maybe true. It may very well be that OMNISTOR SE3016 is different than SGI InfiniteStorage 1116 because the ones we got from digitalmind2000 have firmware version 0102 while OP has a different firmware version (0227).

Got my stuff a few days ago and installed them last night with 2 Seagate drives. As soon as I get the screws to install more drives, I will put them through some testings. Here is what it shows for my ARC-1880x for those interested (so it's doesn't have SAS mux):

Yes, put it in your note and it becomes your best offer terms.

No, I got it from digitalmind2000. However, I did get a 10GbE switch from mrrackables.
