4x8GB Memory recommendations for Asus RIVBE + i7 3960X + Adobe Premiere? Thanks!

Cool, that'll save some money going with 1600 instead of 2400. I have a 250GB SSD just for current project now. I ordered a WD 4TB Black for more storage and in case I get to work with the larger files. Thanks for the link, will read at lunch.

4x8GB Memory recommendations for Asus RIVBE + i7 3960X + Adobe Premiere? Thanks!

Board = Asus Rampage IV Black Edition CPU = Intel Core i7-3960X (overclocked to at least 4.3) OS = Win7 64bit Pro Games are fast enough, don't care. I want to get 32GB, possibly 64, to help with working in Adobe Premiere. I have 8 slots, so would prefer 4x8GB to leave 64 option...

Re-Build powers on then off right away. Help save my hair because I'm pulling it out!

How did it turn out? ... It just got more unexplainable! See if anyone can make sense of this: The PSU (EVGA 1000W) arrived first so out of curiosity I plugged it in and the computer booted up as if everything was fine. That wasn't supposed to happen. The board is supposed to be bad...all...

    Did an unexpected upgrade

Wow...haven't seen a 900D made to look crowded in awhile or someone who bought a 1600W PSU that actually needs it. Nice. What fans are those on your radiator?

Re-Build powers on then off right away. Help save my hair because I'm pulling it out!

It's a hat trick. I ordered a new motherboard. I also ordered a new PSU before, just hoping it was the cheaper part. Oh well. Not sure if this matters, but the Gray Wire went from 0.00 to above 3 volts only once out of the ~20 times I tested it. I had one reading of 4.39, two around 2.50...

Re-Build powers on then off right away. Help save my hair because I'm pulling it out!

Thanks for the link. I tested the outlet, surge, and UPS...all passed well, solid 120-121V on AC and all grounds were zero. I tested several other outlets in the house, all were good except the two that have been wonky since the power surge. Need to get those fixed at some point. Thanks, I...

Re-Build powers on then off right away. Help save my hair because I'm pulling it out!

I'm assuming attaching the black probe to the chassis is for a ground, but this chassis is powder coated aluminum and I couldn't get a ground off it anywhere. I ended up attaching the black probe to the separate, single ground wire from the PSU, which seemed to work fine. I had to jab pins...

Re-Build powers on then off right away. Help save my hair because I'm pulling it out!

Quick Question. The multimeter wasn't what I was expecting...thought it was that thing where you jab a pin into the wires (through the protective wrap) to test the levels going through the wire. This one has needles that just get inserted into the sockets to test when the PSU isn't plugged...

Re-Build powers on then off right away. Help save my hair because I'm pulling it out!

Okay. They probably would have looked at me funny anyway...Is that guy trying to inflate his computer? I'll give this a go this evening. Got the multimeter. Answer may not be definitive, but at least I'll learn about the wall sockets and possibly PSU problem. Well, that's not me, but...

Korean 1440p IPS monitors - $200 or less [REFURBS]

The gaming one is for someone else, but good point. Neither of us is in any hurry, so I'll order a Potato and see how it goes...if it is good enough for the gaming one, then I'll just order another for myself, if not, I'll keep it and order a QNIX for the gamer girl. Too bad it seems every...

Re-Build powers on then off right away. Help save my hair because I'm pulling it out!

Okay, I'm getting a multimeter tomorrow from a friend at work and will test the PSUs, socket, and UPS tomorrow evening...just need to find a good guide on how to do that properly. And I'll take the motherboard and stop at the pump station to spray it with the tire inflator. Sigh.

Korean 1440p IPS monitors - $200 or less [REFURBS]

So it won't be a huge hassle to attach it to the Ergotron? I thought it used a VESA mount, but may be wrong. I think the MX will work, but will have to measure this weekend. The LX gives a lot more option for positioning, but if the MX will be okay for me, I'll play it safe. Thanks for that...

Re-Build powers on then off right away. Help save my hair because I'm pulling it out!

No. No no! Let's pretend you didn't say that. The CPU is the most expensive part of this rig and I'm going to continue to believe in it with my superpowers. I replaced it with a brand new one from the store, still no change. :/ Nothing useful in the immediate town and I don't have time to...

Korean 1440p IPS monitors - $200 or less [REFURBS]

Not sure if refresh rate is an issue...hard to say without comparing them in person I suppose. Overclocking a monitor is a rather new concept to me. Going to have to read up on that. Thanks for the tip on the Samsung QNIX for not much more. It's actually only $40-$45 more for me, since all...

Re-Build powers on then off right away. Help save my hair because I'm pulling it out!

At least you got some good news in the end. :) My news is pretty much all bad. I think I'm a couple days behind you in the "ordering new motherboard" process. Good point. I know my house wiring is borderline crap and this reminded me of it. I had been just straight into the wall because...
