I just put a RL friends pc together for him using a Aerocool M40 with a P5E-VM HDMI and the hard drive cage hits into the cooler on a 8800GTS.
I'm sure it will do this with any duelslot cooler with a M40 + P5E-VM HDMI.
I'm using a 8700-NT on this motherboard without any problems. 3 fins on the zalman go between the fins on the stock northbridge (about 1-2mm in) but apart from that its a nice fit and it doesnt hinder cooling.
Yes 16°C is too low considering thats under room temp by quite a bit which is why i'm saying the the bios is giving a incorrect reading. I'm using a zalman 8700-NT which fan speed should be controlled by the bios and again this wouldnt be giving me a idle bios temp under room temp as that goes...
Im also puzzled by the difference between these programs and also the bios.
In the bios my e6850 is reported to be between 16°C-18°C (depending on room temp)
Now while in windows at idle core temp reports it at between 37°C-39°C (depending on room temp)
So this is about a 20°C...
The zalman 8700 fits with the stock northbridge, some of the fins of the zalman will go between the fins on the northbridge by a few mm but it isnt a problem.
Ok, took a few pics though the quality is pretty dire as i used my phone (buying a camera is next on the list)
I love the looks of this pc and these pics dont even compare to how cool it looks in rl :)

Mine was idling at about 67°C and went up to about 75°C under load.
The interesting thing is the auto fan speed doesnt seem to ever speed up it just stays at 29%.
I just set the fan speed to 50% in ntune and its idling at around 48°C degrees now and the best thing is that its still really...
Right just put speed fan on running at stock speeds and its showing the cpu to be at 60 degrees is thats the core the fan. If this is right then its far too hot for idle on stock settings and this 8700 should be doing better than a stock heatsink.
Any ideas what wrong or if a bios update or...
Ok its all built, ran into hardly any problems while putting it together. Havnt done any overclocking yet but i found a weird issue where its reporting the processor to be at 14 degrees and this is no doubt off quite a bit (using a zalman 8700-nt, which just about fit :) )
So any ideas what up...
So the 8700 fits without hitting the stock northbridge?
Sorry, just wanted to ask if possible could you post a picture?
I will order one the second i know it fits 100% :)
Ok so I think I will change the CPU to a E6750 after what you guys have said but I really want to stick with the ballistix tracers as they look so damned good. I saw a guys pc at the last LAN that I went to (i32) and I decided then that my next pc would have to have them.
Oh and any...
I've been looking to build a new gaming pc for the past 6 months and after reading the forums for the past few months and looking at some of the nice setups you guys have Ive decided to go down the SFF route :)
Below are the parts that Im thinking of getting at the moment. Im dead set on...
