    EW2440L

@deviant: Well, I am guessing you are on the other side of the world to me. I am in the Toronto, Canada area, otherwise, I'd check out your monitor. Another concern of mine now is the off angle gamma shift. How do you find that with this monitor? The alternative to this monitor that I am...

    EW2440L

Was thinking of the BenQ BL2411PT instead. The 1200 res is nicer than 1080 for non movie stuff. BLB isn't too bad, nor is bright corners, but...it's still an issue. I'd love to see these two monitors together to compare. They both have speakers, but the BL2411PT has the vertical portrait option...

    EW2440L

Before my 17" Samsung 712n lcd monitor I had a 10" (18" viewable) Samsung 900 IFT and THAT was a razor sharp monitor for a CRT. 0.20 dot pitch. Of course, the CRT technology is totally different. Either way, that monitor was perfectly sharp the whole time I owned it. I only sold it and got the...

Need help finding a new monitor

Is this that bad of an issue? I can't see it being a deal breaker. It's no worse than home theatre folks with black masking on their projector screens which cause the blacks to look a bit lighter by comparison. If you're worried about poor black levels, install a bias light behind the monitor...

    EW2440L

I'm coming from a TN panel Samsung 17" 712n and I was hoping for a fairly sharp looking monitor and the EW2440L was on my short list with it's mostly flicker free design. Any chance this one was a bad apple? I know VA panels have some drawbacks, but your experience seem particularly bad for a...

    23" - 1920 x 1080 lcd? Viewsonic VP2365wb or NEC EA231WMI-BK vs Samsung F2380MX?

Think it would make any difference if I installed the driver on the CD? I've never noticed a difference before with any monitor. My video card is running 1920 x 1080 @ 32 bit. Once thing I notice is that the borders and bars that make up the windows for explorer and my thunderbird email program...

    23" - 1920 x 1080 lcd? Viewsonic VP2365wb or NEC EA231WMI-BK vs Samsung F2380MX?

Thanks. I just plugged in those numbers for now. I think I need to pick up some colour calibration equipment. I'm going to need to eventually calibrate whatever projector I end up with. I still see some weird red stuff. It's like faces get a weird edge suntan that moves around. Some banding-ish...

    23" - 1920 x 1080 lcd? Viewsonic VP2365wb or NEC EA231WMI-BK vs Samsung F2380MX?

Well, this is a wide monitor, that's for sure. Picked up an F2380MX from BB just now. One thing though, I don't think I'm going to get a good idea of how these newer monitors perform using my AGP Geforce2 GTS over VGA from 6, 7 or 8 years ago or perhaps it's even older? Impressive that my video...

    23" - 1920 x 1080 lcd? Viewsonic VP2365wb or NEC EA231WMI-BK vs Samsung F2380MX?

Thanks for the feedback. I don't think I gave the impression of a bias of QC of one over the other. I just meant to say that the NEC and Viewsonic do have uniformity issues, and in particular, the NEC has been known for the backlight bleeding. All I mean to say there is that I may have to...

Core i5 / i7 Motherboard for me? Which one? ...or AMD solution?

I am upgrading my PC. A week ago, I tried to upgrade to a laptop as a desktop replacement. I bought a laptop with a Core i5 and was actually considering some core i7 laptops. In the end, the screen had bad viewing angles, so I returned it. Now I am thinking of reverting back to a desktop. Help...

    23" - 1920 x 1080 lcd? Viewsonic VP2365wb or NEC EA231WMI-BK vs Samsung F2380MX?

Hello there folks. I guess I'll wade into the water with my questions. I live in Canada. I have a desktop PC that is an AMD64 3000+ with one GB of ram and an ancient Geforce2 GTS video card. I have a Samsung 712N 17" lcd monitor. It's fairly good, but I have not done any gaming, and don't plan...

Help me choose laptop to replace desktop!

They are back on sale, including a nice Toshiba with a 17" widescreen for $1399 CDN. Has only 512 MB ram and 80 GB HDD and Integrated graphics (shares memory). Thanx for your help, but after researching to exhaustion, I have come to the conclusion that I will keep my desktop for now. I would...

Help me choose laptop to replace desktop!

Does anybody know if I could replace the CPU in the: Gateway MX 6420 (1.8 ghz Turion64 ML-32) or Compaq R4225CA (2.2 ghz AMD64 mobile Athlon) with a Turion 2.2 ghz MT-40 (lower power Turion) Could I swap the CPU's on these laptops?

Help me choose laptop to replace desktop!

I guess you cannot have it all. I almost wish the Turion 64 1.8 ghz laptop was still available at sale price. I figure the Turion64 would have better battery life. Is there any way for me to tweak the Compaq AMD 3500+ to lower its power? Undervolt it? Turn stuff off or down when mobile? I...
