i didn't actually get to the point of reseating the cpu. after i loosened the HSF mounting bracket and realized that it would boot i just carefully tightened it back down and went on about my merry way.

yeah....i've had this puppy for at least 6 years. been through at least a video card per year. i think i'm just feeling the mobo/cpu itch because it's been so damn long....
this is the main reason i've gone so long without upgrading CPU. if i can get 50+ fps in current gen games on max settings, i'm happy.
this thread has given me alot of food for thought that needs digesting. i may end up just waiting it out for a while. i was looking at 290x prices yesterday...
if i do upgrade mobo, the old hardware is going into one of my old mining rigs and it'll be my son's new PC.
i hate to get rid of badass hardware even if it is 7 years old.
