A few things:
The lower end model TVs are up to firmware 12.22. Most of the updates have been minor revisions (yes without notes) but they come fast and furious for firmware updates. If something did change that affected displaying the BIOS screen there is a good chance that if you are patient...
I have played on a 40" & 48" but I will reiterate:
Depending on your play-style you may need to adjust your mouse DPI and in-game scroll speed to help compensate for the larger screen size. Otherwise, League plays fine at 4K and looks gorgeous as well.

Do not disagree with using the settings that look best to you.
However, the combos that you did not mention are TV Auto/ Card Full and TV Auto/ Card Limited. The discrepancies occur if you assume Auto really means Auto.

It should also be noted that HDMI Black Level is greyed out when choosing this output mode.
So based on my totally non-scientific A/B test does this imply that Auto/Low are both Full Range?
Interesting anecdote, after reading those articles I played around a bit with TV and Nvidia settings.

I find this whole line of conversation interesting, in that many of the observations differ from mine. To me having HDMI Black Level set to normal produces very washed out colors. Setting it to Auto/Low provides very deep blacks. With the settings below, I can see all 20 of the lagome black...
