I would get a Lenovo ThinkPad, I've gotten them (T61 & R60) for both my college students and I also have a 8 year old T20 & a 12 year old 760ELD ThinkPad that still work fine. The keyboards are great and they're very durable. Go to You Tube and search ThinkPad - pretty neat videos by owners.
