I think I got lucky that mine took the bios mod, it would probably clock higher but i dont want to push my luck. Yep, I dont blame Newegg at all,
pffft...up to 16 pipelines.... who labels crap like that, hell 4 pipes could be UP to 16 pipes. lol I'll think twice before giving Sapphire any...
Thats funny, I went to compusa to get the zalman 900 but saw the 700 cu and went with it as it was $10 cheaper, easy install, knocked 10 degrees off temps under full load and damm near silent. I just played a hour and half straight in Dark Messiah and it played very well, I am officially happy...
Update, I used an ATI X850XT bios and have all 16 pipes open card running at 520/540, using ati tool to turn the fan on, stock fan is real loud at 100% arent they...lol idle temps are 33 load is about 62.
Havent seen any artifacts yet, played Dark Messiah, game stutters a bit in busy areas...
I read threw all the links you posted, that DB of ati bios' is where I got the few I tried, Im just not sure which one opens the pipes and doesnt o/c the card. Maybe Im missing something.
I do very much appreciate the links and advice.
and Arthur, dolfs link isnt valid anymore on that forum
I would use the 850 XT BIOS if the fan worked, I didnt see any artifacts albeit I only had it flashed a few minutes.
Arthur, did your fan work after you flashed the card? Would the modified X850 Pro BIOS open all 16 pipes but not o/c the card? Where would I find the modified X850 Pro BIOS?
I got another question for ya, If I install the latest ATI driver for the 850 series win XP detects an unknown hardware device and cannot install a driver for it, both the Primary and Secondary RAMDACs are both installed.
If I install the Sapphire driver from the CD I dont get this unknown...
The box was not shrink wrapped but did have the sapphire seal sticker on each end and didnt appear to be tampered with.
I appreciate your input Peter, With its current state of 12 pipes do you think my son will notice a differenece over the geforce 6800 he has now? Remember its a plain 6800...
So I decided to mod the card, tested the core and mem to XT speeds 520/540 no problems at all. So I flashed to a sapphire x850XT AGP bios 1.6 samsung ( it does have 1.6 chips on it)
It took the mod just fine, running at 520/540 with 16 pipes...BUT no fan once the system posts, once I turn it...
Yep I just looked and they are sold out, so much for getting the right one, I just wonder who screwed up, either Sapphire or someone pulled a switch and returned it, but if that was the case they did a good job wth the stickers cuz it does say X850XT on the sticker on the cooler.
I took...
Thanks for the reply, What is odd is the card says its an XT right on the card, ATITool says it has 12 active pipes, r481 core.
I wouldnt mind seeing if can open the other 4 pipes, is this difficult to do?
Ok here's the situation. My 16 year old son has my old system, ABIT IS7 mobo 2gb PC3200, 3.2 P4 Prescott and an AGP Geforce 6800 128mb. I was browsing Newegg and they had a Sapphire Radeon X850XT 256 AGP card for $139 so I thought it would play better than the 6800 as its just the plain old 6800...
