Hi gang,
What 24" monitor would you recommend for coding. I'll be looking straight at it reading text for many hours.
I have had some real bad experience with using various dell monitors so far. I'm afraid I don't even know the model numbers of them.
One was an inexpensive (circa $250)...
What's the recommended low power, quiet, reliable 2TB drives to use in this machine?
I thought the Hitachi 5k3000's were the recommended ones but a quick thread search shows nothing.
Will the actual onboard SATA of the Microserver support 3TB drives (under FreeNAS 8)?
Worrying how some of you are reporting lower perf under FreeNAS 8. I'm not intending to replace the onboard nic or controllers so I'd hope there would be good perf from it.
What a wonderful answer. Thank you!
So by the looks of things, dedupe and encryption from zpool v30/31 with Solaris Express probably isn't a good idea on this hardware!
There probably is a way to do it with FreeNAS 8 (zpool v15) by using GELI for encryption, and then running filedupe...
I see Solaris Express now supports ZFS encryption and deduplication.
Has anyone been able to get good throughput and stability with Solaris Express on this?
Do any of you run FreeNAS 8 on this? I'd love to know what the power usage, compatibility and throughput is like.
I suspect there's not enough CPU power in the Neo for GELI encryption either.
Damn, I don't think the HP is for me.
I was looking for a screen that has amazing and sharp text when I spend my day coding and decent enough that I don't get tired eyes (some dells are really bad for that) with 1200 horiz res
And also connect an Apple TV2 to it. I could do a HDMI->DVI but...
Hey thanks for the tip.
My use case for it is:
- Connecting my Macbook to it (It uses Mini Displayport)
- Connect an Apple TV 2 to it from time to time so I really hope it supports HDCP and looks good
I'm really glad you bumped this because I was about to ask the exact same question!
Sadly some of the displays mentioned in this thread either don't support HDMI/HDCP, or aren't 1920 x 1200.
My requirements are:
- Ability to work with an Apple TV 2 (HDMI).
- Nice for reading text/writing...
That's a great point, thanks. I wasn't sure which to install it in because the manual with the motherboard is quite bad and doesn't specify what RAM configurations to try.
I will switch slots.
Hi all,
I'm experiencing hard lockups (lights can't be toggled on keyb) sometimes during POST and sometimes shortly after boot into windows. (If it doesn't hang within the first minute of power on, it doesn't seem to hang at all).
I have a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM-S2H v1.1 motherboard in a...
Hi Guys,
I have a machine with a Gigabyte GA-MA78GM motherboard that I want to connect to a (crappy) standard def tv. Probably runs at 50hz too.
It has a scart connection on the back.
Do you have any suggestions for the type of cable I should get that will allow me to output videos from...
I'm getting a Q6600/G0 and I'm targetting running Ubuntu and Vista X64. I was looking at several P35 motherboards and they all seem to have various issues with Ubuntu. Things like the Marvel controller jumping to PIO mode for IDE drives, failure to boot, to the realtec onboard lan not working -...
Hi all.
I'm getting a Q6600 CPU and now I need a motherboard to go with it. Idealy I'd like to get one with an Intel chipset. I'm not drawn to any type, Bearlake or otherwise.
When I look at reviews, all I see is benchmarks and graphs so I'm helping you guys can help me here.
I will be...
