    How does one describe resolution in layman terms?

    It's sharper, clearer, less fuzzy, lets you see more at once, like the difference between standard TV and HDTV. It's much more obvious when you are using it yourself, not looking over someone's shoulder. It may be though that they do know what they are talking about but can't see well.

    Scythe Slipstreams work very well, if you can get them cheaply. (There are several speeds from 500rpm to 1900rpm. If you have a fan controller get the fastest ones, you can turn a fan down but not up.) Yate Loons are much cheaper if you can find them and also good.

    It's possible to tweak the pot in at least some PSUs to give 13+V, although this doesn't mean that you can charge a battery with it, it would still probably shut down from too much current.     There is 1 fan blowing in and 2 out of the main part of the case, which is why you are running the intake at Mid - a drive bay fan will allow the mid fan to run at Low.     If the HSF was cold and the CPU was HOT - that's because the CPU wasn't making good contact with it. It's happened to me, and it probably failed to POST because it was already overheated - so it won't happen again...

    BIOS resetting to default cpu speeds! why?

    Even if there's nothing wrong with the system, on some boards the CPU clock is reset to the lowest possible speed (way below default in my case) if you press reset during POST.
