Well, I had thought from the posted pics it looked like the 1st slot was close ended. I was somewhat disappointed to see this on my own board. I suppose I can get a riser and a low profile pci-e videocard if I ever want to use this board in a workstation with a real card, but I've got to think...
Just got this from 8anet.com
I assume these boards don't have the flaw.
edit: in case anyone was wondering, they are the same co as acmemicro

There are now manuals available for some:
x9scm/x9scl manual
there appears to be at least one error:
Additionally, there is another manual in that folder:
x9sci/sca board
I have yet to see these boards this manual covers mentioned anywhere online yet:
X9SCi-LN4
X9SCi-LN4F
X9SCA...
Care to elaborate? Are you just wanting flexibility? IE are you going to put something other than a 8 port sas card in the x8 slot that you "lose" with this board? (obviously not really lost, the built-in sas controller sits on an x8 pcie)
You've still got the x8(x16) slot to slap a 16 port...
I should have been more specific.
Why, john4200, would you prefer to have two x8 physical+electrical slots?
I ask because I'm interested in any limitations this setup might have.
the only one I've really thought of was if you wanted dedicated sas ports (non-expander ports) though I'm not sure if...
why is it no one really speaks of X8SI6-F?
284 shippedat gov group (under 300 from better known places)
has lsi 2008 onboard chip 8-Port 6Gbps SAS-II Controller (seems to be pretty well supported under open solaris)
Assuming you're buying a motherboard, it seems like a reasonable way into...
I imagine most people that frequent these forums aren't going to be buying a card to keep it stock.
They plan to either unlock or overclock (or dump the dud and get one that will)..
While this is conjecture: the xt cards are 'newer' and probably from a better core revision or higher yield...
Feel free to look at specs..
I will be content looking at the results of my card (asus AGP 6800xt)
and nothing in life is guaranteed...
for instance that 12 pipe $20 extra card 'might not overclock'
and the asus may not unlock...
if you are already planning to play some odds with unlocking...
not quite sure what everyone's problem is the the 6800xt...
In todays world of alphabet soup videocards. People who make such broad statements as
quadnad
Are often wrong....
And indeed you are wrong.
While IIRC this is true for the pci-e.
The OP said
And I will keep agp in mind...
