Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.
The SC847 SuperMicro chassis is a 36 bay chassis. 24 bays in front and 12 in back. Pretty neat little chassis. I'd love to go for one of the Chenbro 50 bay chassis in a 4U form factor, but those are a bit out of my price range.
*I should also add that this is why there are two separate backplanes.
You're correct on the ram assesment. I will probably stick with 16GB since that unbuffered ram is so expensive.
As for the pool layout, i'm thinking of 3 x 12 disk pools. Each pool will probably be a raidz2. May go raidz1 to get more space.
I also completely forgot about OS drives...
This is very true. Sometimes i forget the difference between the theoretical transfer rates and the real world numbers. I just want to avoid putting a bottleneck in place that will stop me from getting everything i can out of this box.
Lol. Good point. ;)
You're right on the ram aspect...
I'm in the process of designing a backup storage server. This box will serve as a backup to our primary backup server. The only things we need out of it are the following:
1) Be able to fully saturate two Gigabit network cards (250 MB/s)
2) Lots of storage space (100TB ish)
The box will...
