• Some users have recently had their accounts hijacked. It seems that the now defunct EVGA forums might have compromised your password there and seems many are using the same PW here. We would suggest you UPDATE YOUR PASSWORD and TURN ON 2FA for your account here to further secure it. None of the compromised accounts had 2FA turned on.
Once you have enabled 2FA, your account will be updated soon to show a badge, letting other members know that you use 2FA to protect your account. This should be beneficial for everyone that uses FSFT.

    IT Horror Story Thread Locked

Ah, I didn't realize that you needed special privileges to post in General Mayhem. I gotta say that the way you guys moderate this site is a little strange. I'm not just referring to this issue, but several other moderator/admin actions and posts have also stood out as strange ways to do things...

Going by the moderator note, the thread should have been moved rather than locked, but whatever.

New thread Zone for [H]ard Jobs?

Someone could sue this site because they followed someones advice about how to mod their computer and ended up getting electrocuted. Doesn't mean they'll win. There is case law and U.S. Federal law that protects online forums from liabilty in regards to messages posted by third parties...

    That's what disclaimers are for.

I became paranoid when they started plotting against me.

    phpbb database question

phpBB is notorious for security bugs that result in compromised security. They are usually pretty quick to issue patches, but you have to make sure you keep up with all the updates. You can add phpBB tables to your existing database, but if your phpBB installation is ever compromised you risk...

Do Burned CDs Have a Short Life Span?

The majority of discs I have burned have had no problems. However, I did have a batch of DVD+Rs (a spindle of 100) that only lasted a year and then started degrading to the point that they don't read at all. I'm sure that was just an issue with a bad batch of discs but it really sucked to lose...

    Is this even feasible?

You can buy a power cord that connects to both the PSU and monitor. I believe Cyberguys.com sells them.

    Ugliest case ever?

That case would be really cool if those were DVD-ROM drives, but unforunately they aren't. I would love to see a working Bang & Olufsen style case. Looks kind of rugged, but probably isn't as rugged as it looks. Probably good for people who like to lug their desktop around for LAN parties.

    Ugliest case ever?

I don't think it's that bad. Not really my thing, but kinda cool in its own way. The Mexican wrestler case is definitely uglier.

    case windows bad for you?

While your roommate is sleeping, place your computer next to his head with the window facing him.

    Moniter Modding?

Monitors contain components that are very high voltage that remain charged even if the monitor is off and unplugged. I would really recommend against disassembling the monitor. When technician's work on CRT monitors and televisions, they discharge any remaining electrical current stored so...

    Ugliest case ever?

I think they were attempting to design a case that would appeal to the kind of people who like Alienware's cases. But, it's obvious that they've failed miserably.

    Organized Computer Recreation Area

I'm not sure what Dremel router kit you are talking about, but mine can handle up to 1/4 inch. Anything larger than that and you should be using a regular router anyway. Like I said, it's meant for small projects. For those who are saying that the Dremel router kit is crap, it sounds like you...

    Webdesign software advice

Dreamweaver rocks, but no matter what program you use, make sure you learn and understand the actual code (HTML and at least very basic CSS for sure). Don't completely rely on WYSIWYG. Also, be sure to test your site in multiple web browsers. What may look correct in one browser may not...
